GOOD NEWS - 28th February

Just one of the reasons why we all Love Fleetwood is there is always something to look forward to and several fantastic community events are being planned for later this year and beyond!

We mentioned last week that local creative artist Christian Fenn aka Seca One and his partners have exciting plans for the Town and have already identified spaces on buildings and walls for The Big Heart Mural Project.

This is about transforming communities and spaces using the power of art to address and change social issues. With pieces in place already in locations such as Lord Street and the Strive community cafe, the plan is to create a series of 10 more murals that will not only brighten up their surroundings but also inspire people to be involved and boost local tourism attracting visitors from all over the world.

Of course, such an ambitious vision needs financial support and a Crowdfund Lancashire page has now been launched for the next installation which will in turn, encourage backers for more pieces to be designed and painted. Initially, The Big Heart Mural Project needs to secure 20 supporters pledging as little as £2 each. Everything raised through pledges and by the organiser's efforts is matched by Lancashire County Council.

Also looking for support is 'Flakefest', a FREE music event to be held in the grounds of Flakefleet Primary School.

Back in 2019 around 2,000 members of the community enjoyed the first event and it's always been the plan to bring it back. Anyone who has ever been involved with an event like this will appreciate all the elements that have to be considered ... booking the artists, staging, lighting, sound, security and volunteers, promotion, catering, the loos, parking and much more but with the amazing team at Flakefleet School daring to dream as always, you know it's going to happen!

And there are plenty of other great community events in 2024 including ...

  • Party In The Park - Saturday 4th May in Memorial Park

  • Fleetwood Day - Sunday 5th May in Euston Gardens

  • Fleetwood Carnival - Saturday 15th June

  • Friends of Memorial Park Fun Day - Saturday 13th July

  • Fleetwood Festival of Transport (Tram Sunday) - Sunday 21st July

Keep checking local press, social media and posters in the windows of our new Information Centre for updates on all of these and more.
