As always the Fleetwood community supported this year's Remembrance Sunday events with respect and in large numbers.
The parade formed on Adelaide Street outside the Kings Own Comrades Club before making it's way down Lord Street to Memorial Park for the Service and Ceremonials at 11am.
Several members of Fleetwood's Armed Forces Community were also honoured to be invited to the Remembrance events taking place in London and across the Country.
Former servicemen and Fleetwood residents Adam Diver and Kevin Gray have been raising awareness of the urgent need for Veterans Welfare Checks.
The duo joined Andy Mitchell on BBC Lancashire, to share the benefits of implementing a policy of checks by the Ministry of Defence within 6 months of anyone leaving the forces. This would look at housing, registration with and support from the NHS, employment and more. They say, "This pro active approach will save lives, reduce waiting times and lead to financial savings for the NHS."
Thank you to Adam and Kevin for taking up this important cause, that will make a huge difference to so many. We look forward to sharing your story and success.
Two local sporting groups are playing a big part in supporting young people's wellbeing and offering opportunities to progress.
Fleetwood Gym Amateur Boxing Club hosted a Youth International between England and Scotland on Saturday. The home team came out on top 5-3 at the end of what was a great day's boxing and an honour for the Club to stage. They say, "It was an amazing experience for everyone involved and a proud moment for our club to see Head Coach Sean McGann in the England corner, representing at the highest level."
The Club welcome boys, girls and adults to join and it's not all about boxing in competition. Through training, individuals will improve their physical health as well as benefitting from better self-confidence and resilience, and a chance to make new friends.
Fleetwood Gym Football Club is backing the nationwide Silent Support initiative. For this weekend grassroots leagues are encouraged to run games that allow the coach’s voice to be heard. Spectators are welcome to show appreciation through applause but asked to avoid shouting or calling out, helping to create an enjoyable, pressure-free experience. The aim is to promote positive forms of support and a calm, encouraging environment for all the players.
The prize winners from this year's Grow The Tallest Sunflower Challenge called into Healthier Fleetwood last week.
Unfortunately Ann Davenport, the 2025 Champion was unable to attend due to illness. Our best wishes to her and we look forward to presenting Ann with her award soon. Runner-up, Debbie Nelson and third-place Charlie Chesher collected their certificates. Huge thank you to Debby from Fleetwood Wellbeing Way for all her hard work organising the challenge and to ASDA Fleetwood for their support this year.
Staying with a floral theme, congratulations to the members of Fleetwood In Bloom!
They have received a Silver Gilt Award in the Large Town Category of the Britain In Bloom North West competition. The group is supported by Fleetwood Town Council and they say, "Your hard work, dedication and community spirit has truly paid off. Making Fleetwood a more beautiful and vibrant place for everyone. This award is a testament to your incredible effort."
