GOOD NEWS - 8th January

We begin with the launch of a new programme to support individuals and families coping with a cancer diagnosis.

Fleetwood Primary Care Network and their partners are running a pilot group for 6-8 adults registered at the Town's surgeries, who care for a family member with cancer. Sessions will run on Mondays from 13th January through to mid-February covering the many practical and emotional themes faced by the patient, the families and carers, regardless of their medical knowledge and experience.

If you are interested in joining the group, or would like more information, please call the Fleetwood Primary Care Network office on 01253 958493 and leave your name, date of birth, registered GP practice and a contact number: a member of the team will be in touch.

Fylde Coast Macmillan Information Service is also supporting a new initiative, led by Fleetwood Town Community Trust.

The Cod Army Cancer Prehab is a weekly session of gentle exercise, and a chance to chat over a brew. Football clubs across the North West are teaming up with the health sector to deliver similar supportive courses. The sessions will be on Wednesdays from 1pm to 3pm at YMCA Thornton Cleveleys and FREE to attend.

> Further information is available by calling 01253 208442 or email community@fleetwoodtownfc.com

Following the success of the first event in December last year, Wyre Council is hosting two more FREE Tree Giveaways this month.

As part of the Council's climate strategy over 800 trees have been planted in a micro-wood helping towards a reduction in polluting emissions across the borough, making Wyre a cleaner, greener and more sustainable place. Chaucer Primary School, Enchanted Forest Nursery and Friends of Memorial Park are among those who got involved. More Micro-wood planting is planned for the Roundway site in Fleetwood in the New Year and the next giveaways will be on Thursday 16th January and Sunday 19th January at Wyre Estuary Country Park from 10am until 1pm.

Among the highlights of last year was seeing the amazing new murals from street artists Christian & Hayley, aka Seca One & Aylo Nomad.

One of the pieces, 'Wake of Generations', has been nominated for the Best of 2024 on the Street Art Cities website. This mural is a reflection of Fleetwood’s connection to the sea, its maritime history and the traditions that bind the community together. Created with the input and ideas of local residents through workshops and community engagement meetings, it's a visual representation of the collective spirit and shared heritage of Fleetwood ... it also just looks fantastic!

The King's Trust, formerly The Prince's Trust, is inviting young people to join their next Fleetwood-based Team programme.

Starting on Monday 20th January, the 12-week course is open to ages 16 - 25, not currently in education or employment and offers the chance to learn new skills, self-confidence and personal development, volunteering, community engagement and enjoy a residential break.

> To find out more about getting involved, please contact Chloe on 07796 147383 or Katie on 07900 268707, or email PTFleetwood@lancsfiresrescue.org.uk

Marine Hall is celebrating its 90th Birthday this year and the venue team would love to hear your memories and recollections of visiting the much-loved, iconic building.

"Perhaps you watched Alfie Boe onstage at Marine Hall at one of his first shows when he was just a lad, met a lifelong friend, shared a first kiss at a dance with your husband or wife and have celebrated many happy years together, watched the Beatles perform here or just have a funny story to tell about when you visited or even worked here."

Issue 4 of the Connectiverse Magazine is out now!

It's packed with a variety of content from columnists on a range of wellbeing topics and news from organisations and groups working in the community.

Healthier Fleetwood is a not-for-profit organisation supporting the physical and mental health of the Town's residents by connecting them to each other, services and voluntary groups in the community. As an individual's confidence grows they take more control of their own wellbeing and an active role in the decisions that affect them. We are independent of but work in close partnership with the many organisations supporting the community.
