This weekend the Fleetwood community will come together for events to honour those who served and sacrificed as members of the Armed Forces.
Remembrance Sunday will be observed this year on 9th November. The Fleetwood parade will assemble at The Kings Own Club, Adelaide Street at 10.00am, with an additional joining point on Warrenhurst Road, around 10.30am. The Service of Remembrance will take place at The Cenotaph in Fleetwood Memorial Park at 11am. In attendance, alongside numerous community organisations and local residents will be Mayor of Wyre, Cllr Steve Nicholls, the Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire, Lieutenant Colonel Richard Beatson, and Youth Mayor, Horateo Broomhall.
To support Remembrance Day, Wyre Council is offering FREE car-parking on Sunday at the Albert Street and Custom House Lane car parks in Fleetwood, 10am and 2pm.
There's details of support and services for Armed Forces veterans, and their families at the Healthier Fleetwood Information Centre, in The HUB Fleetwood.
Many of the local activities are hosted by Fleetwood Town Community Trust and their partners. These include the popular Walk & Talk sessions on a Monday, veterans football and crown green bowling, and the weekly Zoom call bringing everyone together.
The Armed Forces Garden at Thornton Cleveleys has just been recognised with an award from RHS Britain in Bloom. On Friday 7th November, at 11am the garden is hosting a short remembrance service - all welcome and local school children will be attending too.
> For more information on these opportunities please email
Also based in Fleetwood is the group, Blue Light, Bimble & Brew. They meet socially at venues across the Town for friendly conversation and to share ideas.
Another Facebook group to check out is Fylde Coast Armed Forces Community.
You'll find out about what's happening across the area and news of interest to veterans, serving personnel and their families.
Members of the community have also recently formed a new Fleetwood Branch of the Royal British Legion. Initial meetings have been held monthly, although not in November with the focus on Remembrance events.
Thank you to everyone who has served in the Armed Forces and to the many volunteers who continue to support the Fleetwood community.
A creative wellbeing group starts this week, supported by the Positive Futures team from Volunteer Centre Wyre.
From Friday 7th November, the FREE sessions will be held in the Community Room at Fleetwood Fire Station on Radcliffe Road, 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Luke from Positive Futures says, "We are excited to host a new wellbeing art workshop. Come along to learn different techniques and principles from an experienced artist and produce a piece of work expressing your life journey."

FOCUS ON #KCA - Cancer Support Group
#KCA ... Kick Cancer Away is a resident-led cancer support group making a huge difference in the Fleetwood community.
The weekly peer support group is held on Thursday mornings from 10am to around noon at Trinity Baptist Church on Dronsfield Road, Fleetwood. It's a friendly and informal gathering for anyone, at any stage of a cancer journey from diagnosis to aftercare, and to their family and friends. The members share suggestions for help in the local community, other groups and activities to try but most of all ... they are there to listen.
Lesley founded the group following her experience with cancer. She says. "As time goes by we get to meet and support so many amazing cancer warriors. We do, sadly. along the way lose people. Being able to be a part of their lives, no matter for how long, supporting them and their loved ones makes me happy this group was formed. Even with the love and support of my family and friends my cancer journey was hard and lonely. By building this group from scratch, we can ensure that no one else has to feel lost and alone."
One of the amazing projects KCA have supported is the creation of a fishing lake for cancer patients and their families, living in the Fylde Coast. Adjacent to the Glenholme care home in Bispham it's become a very special place, somewhere to enjoy the activity but also to spend some quiet time and reflect. The success of the lake is down to the fundraising and hard work of the volunteers, led by Eddie, himself a cancer survivor.
KCA play their part in the wider community, supporting other groups and events. Ayshea took part in the Fleetwood Donkey Derby; Lesley, Barbara and members of the group regularly update their news at the Healthier Fleetwood monthly meetings and they'd usually be planning a Christmas Fair but instead, look out for details of a special fundraising event in the New Year!
In the last week KCA has become a CIC. Community Interest Company status will open up more opportunities for funding and partnership work in the future ... the group already support initiatives with Macmillan Cancer, other organisations and voluntary groups.
A huge thankyou to Lesley and everyone at KCA for everything you do.
