It's been fantastic to see and hear staff and volunteers from ONE FYLDE calling into The HUB Fleetwood in recent weeks, preparing to launch the new Community Cafe.
The opening date and what to expect at the new facility will be announced by One Fylde soon but in the meantime another community hub has recently been celebrating its first anniversary.
Strive Community Cafe at Flakefeet Primary School hosts a wide range of groups and activities ... open to all local residents, not just families with children in school. As well as all the visitors who call in for coffee, cake and conversation the popular Crochet group meet Thursday afternoons.
Monday 9th June is a busy day ... Blackpool & Fylde College host a regular drop-in from 10am to share their many adult earning opportunities; Healthier Fleetwood will be there at 11.30am and it's the return of Wellbeing Bingo with Positive Futures at 1.30pm.
Also back at Strive from next week, the Becoming More Me workshops. Parents, carers and guardians are invited to attend the weekly group ... a chance to unwind, chat and connect over the FREE brews and snacks. Sessions will be on Thursdays from 12th June, 9.15 - 11am. Spaces are limited, so pre-booking is essential. To get involved, please email connor@blackpoolvolunteers.org.uk
If you're a family thinking of joining YMCA Sports Centres, now may be the time with an extra incentive!
New members taking up a Y:Youth Membership before 30th June can also claim half-price swimming lessons, helping to keep children, safe, active, and confident in the water all summer long. The offer is valid for all the local YMCAs including at Fleetwood.
Not sure if they will be swimming but the amazing ladies of THE CHILL LOUNGE are planning their next sponsored 'Beach Sleep Out', raising funds for the community.
Jane Couch MBE is one of the organisers and she says, "Our annual sleep out is about 6 weeks away. Since we started this it's got bigger every year, helped so many Fleetwood people and any money raised goes to different causes in Fleetwood. We get great support and in return it all goes back into our community."
This year's event takes place from 5pm on Saturday 19th July through to the morning of Sunday 20th July. Donations and sponsorship are welcome and appreciated.
> Join The Chill Lounge group on Facebook > or you can Contact Us at Healthier Fleetwood and we can put you in touch.
Sunday 20th July is going to be amazing in Fleetwood with another event confirmed!
Fleetwood Food & Drink Festival at Marine Hall will take place alongside the Fleetwood Community Comic Con in the same venue ... and it's FREE ENTRY to both events! Enjoy a wide range of tasty treats, all the sights and sounds of the Comic Con and of course it's also Tram Sunday that day.
> E-mail janet.heald@wyre.gov.uk for more information and to book a stall at the Food & Drink Festival
With so much to look forward to in Fleetwood, all year round, organisers often work together to raise the profile of their events and increase the number of visitors.
Fleetwood's VE Day events in May were promoted together, and the Scarecrow Festival and Jumble Trail at the end of the month are doing the same.
You'll also spot the LOVE FLEETWOOD logo appearing within the marketing for family-friendly events in the Town. We'll be sharing more about this in future weeks and how the Fleetwood community can get involved with your ideas and as volunteers supporting the many events.
Wyre Council is also asking what aspects of heritage & culture matter most to you?
They are developing a new Heritage and Culture Strategy and your opinions will help direct their vision for the future of heritage and culture across the borough, reflecting creativity, diversity and the success of local communities.
The survey is open to everyone living, working or visiting Wyre., work here, or simply enjoy visiting. Your input will help shape a strategy that reflects the creativity, diversity and success of our communities.
Residents and voluntary groups are also invited to contribute to a couple of other surveys gathering views on health, wellbeing and community.
Special Educational Needs & Disability ... Further to Lancashire's SEND Inspection last year, the' Local Offer Survey 2025' will support further development of the dedicated website which brings together information for children and young people.
Voluntary, Community, Faith, and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) ... The 'State of the Sector' Survey has been created in partnership to understand the work the VCFSE sector does and also to celebrate the positive contributions being made in Lancashire and Cumbria. Small voluntary groups like arts & crafts clubs, choirs, dancers, faith organisations are encouraged to complete the survey ... you will go into a draw to win a £500 prize!
