GOOD NEWS - 3rd September

Updated: Sep 9

It was an honour for Healthier Fleetwood to join many other community partners in supporting the Baton of Hope event at Highbury Stadium on Monday.

As part of the opening leg for this national suicide awareness campaign, individuals with personal experience of the effects of suicide carried the baton from Blackpool and around Fleetwood Town's pitch.

For all those taking part, those attending to share their work in the community and those who came along to find out more it was an emotional and at the same time very inspirational afternoon.

Thank you to friends and family members who shared their stories and to the team from Empowerment Blackpool for all their hard work staging the event.

And a good time was had by all at a very different community event on Saturday ... The Kracken! beach craft session.

Despite the threat of heavy rain, which never came, there was good turn out of families to create a sea monster from stones, driftwood and other found items. A huge thank you to Angie from Fleetwood Museum Trust for planning and leading this, Steve for the drone filming and everyone who came along and took part on the day.

Congratulations to our friends at The Bay: A Blueprint for Recovery ...

on the news they have secured a further three years funding for their great work in the community including many projects and events for Fleetwood. They say ...

“The project has made amazing connections across the communities in area and helped so many people already. We are extremely proud of what’s been achieved and for this exciting new chapter helping people connect with nature, to feel happier and healthier, and be part of nature’s recovery.”

We look forward to working with Mike, Rachel and all the volunteers from the Wyre team in the future.

A couple of volunteering opportunities to share ...

Wyre Council's Bike Repair Workshop at Marine Hall is open and buzzing with activity, but does need more hands! If you’ve got bike repair skills or just enjoy tinkering, your time could make a huge difference. Each bike you help fix in the fully equipped workshop, is donated to someone in the community who needs it to get around, stay active, or improve their circumstances.

> Email community@wyre.gov.uk to get involved and start volunteering today

Fleetwood Sea Cadets is looking for adult volunteers to help inspire the next generation. You could:

👩‍🏫 Lead and inspire as an instructor

🛠️ Keep things running behind the scenes

📋 Help with admin or fundraising

📝 Learn new skills

🌍 Make a difference in young lives

Whether you’ve got an hour a week or one evening a month, the sea Cadets would love to have you aboard. No naval or teaching experience is needed, full training and support is provided.

We moved from previous premises on Lord Street, opposite St Peter's Church in February but we are still updating the window display.

Regular testing ensures the system is functioning correctly, should it be needed in an emergency. The test is not intended to alert you to real danger and you will not need to take any further action.

Healthier Fleetwood is a not-for-profit organisation supporting the physical and mental health of the Town's residents by connecting them to each other, services and voluntary groups in the community. As an individual's confidence grows they take more control of their own wellbeing and an active role in the decisions that affect them. We are independent of but work in close partnership with the many organisations supporting the community.
