Submissions from filmakers are welcome now for the various categories.

Ahead of the festival there's a Cine Wyre Launch event is this Sunday at Marine Hall, 10th August from 2pm to 4pm. It's a glimpse into what you can expect ... Jimi Kuruvakadua, Fleetwood Town Council Armed Forces Champion, has launched a newsletter sharing information and events for veterans and serving personnel.

The August edition is available to read online here or pick up printed copies from the Healthier Fleetwood Information Centre at The HUB Fleetwood.

Supported by Joanne McNamara and Andrew Taylor from Royal British Legion, Jimi helped to host a public meeting to discuss forming a new Fleetwood branch of the RBL. He says, "I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who attended. Your feedback and points have been noted and taken on board. The next meeting will be on 1st September from 7.30pm at United Reformed Church."

There's a fortnightly Armed Forces drop-in at the Heart of The Hub Cafe with Tony from Fleetwood Town Community Trust.

With his experience and connections Tony can offer advice and signposting to a range of support in and around Fleetwood. The next drop-in will be on Tuesday 12th August, 10am to 12 noon, then alternate Tuesdays until further notice.

The Wyre Befriending Service is now up and running and actively recruiting volunteers who can give an hour or two of their time to help others.

Loneliness can affect anyone, of any age, gender or background, at any time. It increases the likelihood of poor physical health or early mortality and puts individuals at greater risk of anxiety and depression.

Befriending volunteers will be able to offer companionship to those most in need in our communities and can also assist individuals with practical tasks, such as helping with shopping. Something as simple as getting together for a brew and a chat can make a significant difference and brighten the day of someone who is socially isolated.

Applications are now open for Wyre’s Household Support Fund ... to help residents with essentials like food, heating, and water.

Wyre Council has received over £550,000 from Lancashire County Council for the latest Household Support Fund. Applications are invited by all Wyre residents, including those not currently receiving benefits. Support may include vouchers, direct payments, and other forms of assistance.

Applications are open until 31 March 2026 or until funds are fully allocated and due to high demand, early applications are strongly encouraged.

Although the Summer holidays are very much on, the shops are full of 'back to school' clothing ... Westview Community Association are also helping to plan for September.

It's the last few days of donations to Westview's School Uniform Bank. Any unwanted, washed and good condition items are appreciated ... blazers, shirts, skirts, trousers, sports kit, trainers and shoes, bags and stationery. These will be redistributed to local families from 18th August.

And for families with younger children ... Fleetwood Baby Bank returns Sunday 10th.

This is on between 10am and 12 noon at Skools Inn/Out Nursery, 444 Fleetwood Road.

If you are looking for anything from a pram to baby wipes, it's well worth popping in!

A reminder it's the last full month of the Grow The Tallest Sunflower challenge with Fleetwood Wellbeing Way and Healthier Fleetwood.

With the storms, sluggs, squirrels and stray footballs it's not been an easy Summer for the plants but plenty of local residents do have flowers to be proud of and are in with a chance of winning this year's title.

If you are taking part, the date to remember is Friday 5th September. That's when you can start to send photos of your plants with a measurement. All entries must be in by Friday 19th September.

Looking for something to do during the Summer holidays? Fleetwood Museum is always a great place to visit and it's FREE for FY7 residents throughout August.

Packed with fascinating displays and artefacts on the history and heritage of Fleetwood there's something for all ages. To take up the offer please bring along proof of home address i.e bill, letter etc and present it to the Museum reception desk on entry.

There's more chances to be a winner with Wellbeing Bingo ...

These free and fun sessions hosted by The Positive Futures Team are already a big hit at Strive Community Cafe, you can also play at Heart of the Hub cafe. The first game will be on Monday 11th August with your caller Connor. Please use the Bold Street or the carpark entrances to The HUB Fleetwood, the former hospital building. Eyes down at 1.30pm - no need to book.

Back in May we first highlighted two, then brand new, opportunities to enjoy a sporting challenge with your friends and family.

The Big Fish darts hub on Lord Street and Mini Links Golf on Central Promenade have both proved to be popular additions to Fleetwood this Summer and you don't have to be a Luke Littler or a Rory McIlroy to have fun!

If you fancy flinging some arrows, boards at The Big Fish can be pre-booked (including for birthday parties) or there's the Academy for younger players plus holiday clubs, tournaments and a great range of darts accessories.

When the sun does shine (or at least it's not raining) there's nothing better than playing a round on the Promenade. After opening in May with the restored Crazy Golf there's now also the mini links and pitch & putt courses. Community groups and holiday clubs have been regular visitors in recent weeks.

Have you discovered the Burtons Tea Rooms in The Gateway at The Mount?

The refurbished venue is a lovely place to enjoy a coffee and a snack and they also host regular community events and activities. This month's line up includes a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Now, Friday 8th August at 11am - all welcome for sandwiches, scones and clotted cream, sweepstake and a raffle.

On Friday 22nd & Saturday 23rd August there are workshops to learn crochet and slow-stitching respectively. There is a cost to these two and a half hour sessions which includes tips and materials.

Healthier Fleetwood is a not-for-profit organisation supporting the physical and mental health of the Town's residents by connecting them to each other, services and voluntary groups in the community. As an individual's confidence grows they take more control of their own wellbeing and an active role in the decisions that affect them. We are independent of but work in close partnership with the many organisations supporting the community.
