There's a strong volunteering theme to this week's GOOD NEWS ... opportunities to get more involved in your community and support your friends and neighbours.
The Welcome Table is a new initiative for low-income families and people of no fixed abode, with a hot meal, activities and access to services. Led by local partners including the Positive Futures Team from the Volunteer Centre Wyre and Fleetwood Area Police, it's due to launch ahead of the Winter months. If you have some spare time, maybe just an hour or two each week, please contact the organisers to offer your help. In return, you will can gain a free qualification in food hygiene as well as valuable employability skills.

> Telephone: 07485 326775
There's also a drop-in for anyone interested in volunteering for The Welcome Table:
Thursday 30th October from 12noon in the Heart of the Hub community cafe at The HUB, the former Fleetwood Hospital building. No need to book - just come along for a chat.
There will be plenty of chatting during the Lancashire County Council Information drop-in on Friday 31st October at Westview Community Association.
Lancashire Volunteer Partnership officer Mark will be there - the service links in with community venues and projects across the County to match individuals with appropriate volunteering roles. You can also meet staff from Fleetwood Library, health and social care, welfare rights and children & family wellbeing.
Plus you can find out more about all the ways Westview support the local community (they welcome volunteers too) AND for Halloween there's hot dogs and goody bags for the kids!
> The drop-in runs from 11am - 2pm ... it's a great chance to connect with local services, ask questions, and get support, all in the heart of your community!
RNLI Fleetwood are looking for somebody to join their amazing team.
The Water Safety Adviser is part of a team contributing towards the local Water Safety and Lifesaving Plan by going into the community and delivering RNLI approved advice. You help to identify local risks and work with partners to deliver targeted interventions.
The RNLI say, "This role for somebody who has good communication/people skills and possibly some experience of public speaking but if not, the desire to gain some skills and/or confidence in this area. If you would like to join a friendly, dedicated, motivated team and fit the criteria or have some of the required skills, we would like to hear from you."
There are currently around 1 million people in the UK living with dementia. It mainly affects people over the age of 65 but symptoms and associated conditions can impact the lives of people at a younger age.
We're looking forward to catching up with volunteers from The Walnut Tree Wyre later this week as they host the first of their new monthly drop-in events. Anne and John have many years lived experience of caring for a loved-one, and a wealth of knowledge on the support, services and activities available across Fleetwood & Wyre.
They will be in The Heart of the Hub cafe on Friday 31st November, 11am - 1pm sharing information and suggestions. Joining them is Robert, diagnosed with Parkinson's early in life but it hasn't stopped him enjoying his interests and sharing an inspiring story. These sessions are very informal, no need to book.
There's also a Dementia Care Workshop on Tuesday 4th November ...
Hosted by the team from Fleetwood Hall care home it's being held at Highbury Stadium, Fleetwood Town FC from 10am to 2pm. FREE tickets are limited and need to be booked.
And our friends from LPM Dance have launched their new dance group for people living with Parkinson’s.
Neuro-Moves will start in December, hosted just a few miles away at Cleveleys Community Centre, Kensington Road, FY5 1ER. There's FREE taster sessions on Wednesdays 3rd, 10th and 17th December from 10.30am to 11.45am. Paid classes will start on Wednesday 7 January 2026 and cost £3.50 per person.
Helen Gould of LPM Dance says, “We're really excited to be bringing Neuro-Moves to the area. We understand that living with a neurological condition is challenging, and it's often tough to find
an activity that is accessible and designed to support particular needs. Neuro-Moves can adapt movement and support people wherever they are in their Parkinson’s journey. It really is a class that makes a difference ... we can't wait to get started.”
Local residents Vanessa & Ava started a wonderful community art project earlier this year ... painting stones to make a colourful snake on the Prom.
Recently the creature lost its head but thanks to another Fleetwood resident, Angie, fangs are looking good again! Why not paint a stone and add it to the snake, just along from Marine Hall heading to towards Rossall.
Thank you also to another talented local crafter, Karen ... who's been out and about placing knitted and crocheted Halloween decorations on letter boxes and benches. Always colourful and fun, the displays bring a lot of pleasure to the community.
