GOOD NEWS - 27th November
IT'S CHRISTMAS ... OK, maybe it isn't yet but this weekend the community is invited to enjoy the Fleetwood Festive Lights Switch-on!
Always eagerly awaited Saturday's event says the Festive Season has begun and local residents love getting involved. The Lantern Parade will meet from 4.30pm by Fisherman's Walk/Ash Street to set off around 5pm, along Lord Street, North Albert Street towards The Prom. Join in with your lantern or torch (no naked flames please) and if you want to, come along in Christmas fancy dress!
You can also make your way straight to Marine Hall where you will be entertained from 5.30pm by compere Dave Scrivener and the Switch On Concert ... also including Fleetwood Old Boys Band, Fleetwood Royalettes Morris Dancers, Larkholme Primary School, Lucas Williams and The Jacks.
Thank you to The Festive Lights Committee for all their hard work, not just this weekend but for many months in advance, fundraising and preparing for this event.
Saturday is also your first chance this year to see Santa's Sleigh, thanks to his good friends at Fleetwood Rotary Club. Santa will be touring the Town from Monday 2nd December until Friday 13th, also taking cash donations which will be used to support the local community. The full schedule is shared on Facebook - see the Fleetwood Rotary page here or we will have a printed list at the Healthier Fleetwood Centre.
December is just around the corner and we are delighted to announce the launch of our Community Advent Calendar for 2024.
Every day in run-up to Christmas we'll bring you an individual, charity, voluntary group or organisation making a difference in and around Fleetwood. It's a chance to find out more about their work, how to get involved and to say thank you. We'll include links to their social media, website as appropriate and display a poster in our Lord St windows.
There's already some amazing people and groups lined up but we'd also love to hear your suggestions. Please contact us through Facebook messenger or email to listening@healthierfleetwood.co.uk with the name of the person/group and why you think they should be celebrated.
Taking a break from Christmas, for now, there's plenty of GOOD NEWS to share ... starting with even more success for the Fleetwood community.
The Thrive Partnership was a winner at the recent Health Service Journal Awards, recognising their fantastic work supporting children and young people in Fleetwood. The Partnership includes Liz Loftus, Children's Mental Health lead for Fleetwood Primary Care Network, health and social care professionals, education and community leaders and organisations working in the community.
Huge congratulations to everyone involved and thank you.
... and it's been another fantastic week at the Fleetwood Youth Hub!
After a successful fundraising campaign and a kind donation from Evolution Ltd, the venue now has a defibrillator. Connor Pennington from the Youth Hub said, "From an idea to involved youth voice, to now having it fully funded and ready to install, it's overwhelming to see it here and ready to save lives.”
This week, the Youth Hub hosted a knife-crime awareness workshop for children, young people and their parents. Byron from The JJ Effect delivered an eye-opening session on the consequences of knife crime and his own experience. The audience appreciated the positive outcomes of the session, gaining awareness and education. The workshop was sponsored by Connectiverse, supported by Fleetwood Town Community Trust and Lancashire Constabulary.
Fleetwood Market has been a much-loved and important part of the local community since 1840 ... the venue and team working there need your support.
It's the time of year when The National Association of British Market Authorities ask operators, traders, and the public to nominate their favourite venue for the 'Great British Market of the Year Awards'. A short list of the top markets will be created based on public votes, to be considered by a judging panel.
Wyre Council is asking residents and businesses to contribute to the Economic Development and Visitor Economy strategy for Wyre over the next 10 to 15 years.
In addition to the online survey, council officers are holding open consultation sessions to allow as many people as possible to have an opportunity to input into the final strategy. The Fleetwood session is at The Mount Pavilion on Saturday 14th December, 10am - 12noon. The consultation closes on Sunday 22nd December.

This is about understanding the power of listening when somebody is grieving, or caring for somebody as they approach end-of-life. Always an inspiring evening, full of positivity from local residents and voluntary groups, and an opportunity to make suggestions for something new to benefit the community. At this meeting we also invite you, if you can, to bring a few items of food as a donation to The Pantry foodbank or a gift item that can be given as a present to a guest at this year's Fleetwood Christmas Dinner event. Anything you can donate is appreciated. We look forward to seeing you and as it is nearly Christmas, don't be surprised if there's a mince pie or a cake to go with your brew!
