GOOD NEWS - 24th August
WARNING: This edition of GOOD NEWS does include a mention of Christmas!
We start our weekly, whistle-stop tour around the local community by sending our congratulations to the management and traders at Fleetwood Market, recently named in a survey as the best in the North West!
The rankings were compiled using data from TripAdvisor reviews, Instagram hashtags, TikTok views and Google searches and in fact, Fleetwood Market came out third in the whole country. It's great recognition for the venue and everyone involved. If you haven't been down lately there are both indoor and outdoor stalls offering a huge range of clothing, gifts, books, household goods, places to eat and much more.
Small businesses and community groups are invited to be part of the 11th Fylde Coast Food & Drink Festival at Marine Hall on Sunday 10th September.
The event will showcase the finest food and drink from our region and with free entry, free parking, free entertainment and family activities. There will be lots to try and buy including cakes and coffee, cheese and chutneys, pies and puddings, wines, beers, spirits and lots more. > All about the Fylde Coast Food Festival
Before that, a couple of community events would welcome your support ...
This Saturday join the Beach Craft event, 11am - 1pm, to create a huge replica of Fleetwood's ceremonial Fish Queen AND the 26th is also the launch of the new Enchanted Forest Nursery.
Unfortunately, the planned fundraising day for Wyre & Fylde Community Defibrilators has been postponed due to illness. They hope to arrange something later this year.
There are several drop-in events soon in the Healthier Fleetwood Information Centre at Affinity Lancashire ...
Alison from Crafty Alliecat hosts card-making sessions for adults, ages 18 plus on Bank Holiday Monday, 11am - 2pm.
Busy day on Tuesday 29th with the Autism Initiatives pottery workshop - buy and paint a gift on the day or take it away for fun at home (glazing/firing is included) PLUS Sarah and her colleagues from Slimming World Fleetwood will share more about the support they offer.
On Friday 1st September, as well as our regular Chatter Cafe with the volunteers from The Walnut Tree and Fleetwood's Social Prescribers, you can browse the Just Reminiscing collection of artefacts and memorabilia hosted by Lesley and Carol from Wyre Council. There will also be a chance to try the smoothie-bike - generating energy to blend an eco-friendly and healthy drink.
We thought we were seeing things last week when Santa and one of the elves turned up in our Information Centre!
Thankfully all was well, it was Mary and Julie from Fleetwood Festive Lights, out and about in colourful costumes. Yes, it may only be August but you know what is getting closer and plans are well underway. There's a Quiz Night fundraiser at the North Euston on Thursday 28th September and you can now book your tickets for the Festive Lights Christmas Party, 2nd December in the Parkside Suite at Fleetwood Town's Highbury Stadium.

A great time was had by all at the RNLI Fleetwood Open Day last Saturday.
It was an opportunity to meet the crew and see them in action and support their life-saving work. Volunteers are the heart of the RNLI, making up the vast majority of the team. Roles include crew members, shore staff, administrators, fundraisers and more, they all make an amazing contribution. Contact RNLI Fleetwood on 01253 874000 or e: fleetwood@rnli.org.uk
So lots of dates and events to share this week, just one more if we may.
A reminder we're hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning at our Information Centre on Friday 29th September, from 10.30am. Donations of tombola prizes are now very welcome - regifted items, new or in very good condition please and these can be brought into us at Affinity on our usual opening days. Offers to bake cakes and biscuits for the event are also appreciated.
