With the changing of the clocks this Sunday it feels like Winter is truly on the way.
In future bulletins we'll be sharing news about a number of community initiatives to support local residents to stay safe and warm during the colder, darker months ... starting with an event on Wednesday 3rd December from 2pm at Emmanuel Mount Church, Fleetwood.
WARM Matters, aims to address Wellness, Advice, Resource and Money Matters for residents in Fleetwood and across the County, highlighting the work that Cosy Homes in Lancashire and other services can provide to local residents.
FREE to attend, refreshments will be provided and there will be giveaways and a free prize draw for those attending. More details will be shared soon. For now any organisations and voluntary groups working in the Fleetwood community are invited to host a stall to share the support and services they offer.
> To get involved email the organisers cosy.homes@blackpool.gov.uk
The date and venue for WARM Matters has been chosen as it's also December's Healthier Fleetwood Open Meeting from 6.30pm at Emmanuel.
We'll keep the kettle on and the conversation bubbling ... so you can come along for the afternoon and stay for the evening!
Volunteer Centre Wyre have compiled a list of helpful contacts covering health, homelessness, food, domestic violence, employment & more.
Information is available in a choice of languages to support as many people within the community as possible.
> Printed copies of the English language version are also available to pick up from Healthier Fleetwood.
Congratulations to Kate Pollard, Marketing & Events manager at Affinity Lancashire.
Last week the Affinity team attended the prestigious Sceptre Awards at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. The Sceptre's are the UK’s leading awards in the shopping centre industry, celebrating excellence, innovation, and best practice ... and Kate was recognised as Marketing Manager of the Year!
Her colleagues at Affinity Lancashire say, "We are so proud of Kate's achievement - her dedication and commitment to her role as well as her passion for the centre, is clearly evident to those who work with her, and we are so thrilled that she has brought the award home to Fleetwood."
Affinity kindly offered space for the original Healthier Fleetwood Information Centre and we were based at the outlet when Kate took up her role. From the start it was clear how much she loved her work and saw the importance of engaging with the community. Her award is thoroughly deserved.
Also celebrating ... the winners and nominees at the Wyre Moving More Awards.
These awards recognise the outstanding individuals, schools, clubs and organisations who are helping Wyre move more, live well and thrive together. This year saw an incredible 81 nominations submitted across the categories including several familiar for their work supporting the Fleetwood community.
Just highlighting a couple of the categories of interest to Fleetwood ...
- Volunteer of the Year – Richard and Victoria Boehme, for their tireless work with Fleetwood Scouts, creating unforgettable experiences for local children.
- Coach of the Year – Mike Barkworth, whose leadership at Fleetwood Rugby Club has transformed not just a team, but a community.
BREAKING NEWS ...
Last night, Affinity Lancashire was also recognised as the Tourism Business and as the Social Media winners at this year's Wyre Business Awards.
Strive Community Cafe at Flakefleet Primary School picked up the Corporate Social Responsibility Award.

The 2025 Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal will be launched this week and Fleetwood is at the heart of events to mark the occasion.
BBC cameras recently called into the Armed Forces Garden at Thornton Cleveleys to see the display of poppies and meet some of the veterans who created and maintain the space. Reports are expected to be shown during news bulletins on Thursday 23rd October. Tony Codling, Armed Forces wellbeing officer for Fleetwood Town Community Trust says, "It's a great honour for our group to be chosen to help launch this year's appeal."
Also, well done to Tony who completed his 24-hour spinathon challenge last week, raising funds for veterans groups and activities. The final total raised will be announced soon.
