GOOD NEWS - 21st May

Updated: May 23

We've just had the FA Cup Final, there's a big European Final this evening and the Premier League season ends at the weekend ... by coincidence, this week's bulletin is packed with football and sporting connections!

Kicking off with congratulations to Fleetwood Town Community Sports College who secured the North West League title with a 1-0 victory over Liverpool last week. The College say, "There have been many moments of challenge in the season and in particular the last few weeks after the Easter break. The players stuck together and never lost focus of the objective. A group of fantastic players over 3 year groups, but more importantly an amazing group of people."

The players and staff have a fantastic experience to look forward to now as they will be presented with the Trophy at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 24th May before this season's EFL Championship play-off final.

Fleetwood Town Community Trust host a FREE drop-in football session for adults, every Friday, 1pm - 2pm at Poolfoot Farm.

There's no need to book, just turn up and play ... meet new friends, stay active, and enjoy the beautiful game! And if getting to the game is a problem ... jump on the FREE minibus leaving from the Bold Street carpark of The HUB Fleetwood (Fleetwood Hospital) at 12.30pm. You'll get a lift back too!

Is the next Mary Earps, Ella Toone or Lucy Bronze in Fleetwood ... Rossall School is holding a Girls Football Scholarship Day on Saturday 7th June.

Open to girls in Years 9 and above for entry in September 2025, the day will include a chance to interact with the school's Elite Footballers, participate in a skills workshop with expert coaches, demonstrate abilities in trial matches and offers the potential to secure a scholarship at Rossall. Refreshments and lunch is also provided, and girls and their families can also attend the school's Open Day.

A scholarship is ideal for students who are looking to blend the best of British academic excellence and world-class football coaching opportunities ... Rossall School's football programme is in partnership with Manchester City's UEFA qualified coaches.

Although the season's over for Fleetwood Town FC, they are looking ahead to the start of the next campaign and inviting the community to get involved.

The Club is seeking volunteers who will attend all home fixtures, ensuring the matchday experience is safe, inclusive and welcoming. Volunteering is a rewarding opportunity to gain a positive experience in a sporting environment, learning new transferable skills whilst getting to know your home-town football club even better. There's also package of benefits available to the volunteers as a thank you.

Moving away from football to other sports, Fleetwood has two new venues to challenge your family and mates to a friendly game!

The Mini-Links crazy golf on the Central Promenade, is 18 holes of family fun. Opening at weekends and in the holidays, the new operators have revived the much-loved attraction and have big plans for the Summer ahead ... as both of the pitch & putt courses will also be opening again later in the year!

The Big Fish Darts Hub opened on Lord Street, Fleetwood at the weekend.

With multiple boards, somewhere to enjoy a brew or soft drink and decorated with images of the World's top darters, it's suitable for all ages to play and practice. The Big Fish Darts Hub & Coffee Lounge is open daily from 10am to at least 8pm, the Fisherman's Walk end of Lord Street.

By the way ... 'The Big Fish' is the name for the maximum finish in darts ... 170!

Great news that Fleetwood's Marine Beach, Ferry Beach and also Rossall Beach have received Seaside Awards this year from Keep Britain Tidy.

Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who work so hard to ensure the beaches are clean and safe for people to enjoy and provide a habitat for flowers and wildlife.
