GOOD NEWS - 21st August
This week marks six months since the opening of the current Healthier Fleetwood Information Centre on Lord Street.
After a couple of very enjoyable and productive years based at Affinity Lancashire Outlet, and a short time 'popping up' at the Library, we moved to a great Town Centre location in February, welcoming visitors and sharing Good News for and from Fleetwood.
Hundreds of local residents, dozens of community groups and organisations have joined us, connecting with each other and to the vibrant network of activities and events taking place in Fleetwood. The Centre is literally a shop window and a busy one too - there's around 50 posters on display, with over 100 more inside, many also with leaflets.
We host a number of drop-in events, across a wide range of themes including Armed Forces Veterans, Dementia Awareness, Diet & Nutrition, Volunteering and more. We hope we've created a welcoming, relaxed environment whether you're visiting for the first time or have been in before - the kettle is always on and we love to see you!
Our thanks to Regenda Homes for their support in offering us the premises, formerly their Fleetwood Office, and we hope to extend the arrangement beyond the initial 1 year period. A special mention to Steve, then Regional Manager at Regenda, now the world's best hula-hooping barista at Strive Community Cafe!
Thanks also to the many partners who have hosted events, our fantastic volunteers and to all our lovely visitors.
If you haven't been in to see us yet ... The Healthier Fleetwood Information Centre is at the market end of Lord Street, opposite St Peter's Church and open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10am to 3pm.
WHAT'S ON AT THE HEALTHIER FLEETWOOD CENTRE
On Friday 30th August we welcome Anne, John and Robert from The Walnut Tree for their monthly Dementia Awareness drop-in.
The caring volunteers offer practical and honest lived experience of looking after a loved-one diagnosed with dementia or another debilitating condition. Enjoy a cuppa and a friendly conversation as you find out more about the support and services available in the local community. It's FREE to attend and there's no need to pre-book ... just call in and say hello from 11am to around 1pm.
The new 74 & 75 bus routes operated by Fleetwood-based company Archway Travel have been launched this week ... and there's a stop right outside our front doors!
The service connects Fleetwood with Preston via Poulton then a choice of routes through Great Ecclestone, Inskipp, Salwick or further south through Weeton, Kirkham and Newton-with-Scales both offer very pleasant scenery on the way. Thank you to the team at Archway for passing on some new timetables which can be picked up from our Centre.
