GOOD NEWS - 19th November 2025

Today is INTERNATIONAL MEN'S DAY, celebrating the positive value men bring to the world, their families and their communities and Fleetwood is fortunate to have several groups and opportunities for and hosted by men including ...

Men's Shed Fleetwood have been supporting the local community for nearly 10 years ... men, women and families. Much of their work is done without fuss or fanfare but is always greatly appreciated. They offer a number of activities from their base on Manor Road including the free Thursday lunch and the Veteran's Breakfast (held at St David's Church.)

Fleetwood Town Flyers Football Club support men's physical and mental health. Three sessions a week offer the chance to play for fun and fitness or to join their competitive teams at ages from 50+. Players can also enjoy a brew after the games, a chance to catch up for some banter and friendship.

It was three of The Flyers who set up the Talking Men group. They meet every Thursday, 6 - 8pm at The Verona Hall, Thornton-Cleveleys. A friendly and welcoming space, free of judgement ... new members always welcome.

Thank you to all these organisations and individuals, and many more across Fleetwood.

Fleetwood Town Community Trust have released an Impact Report for 2024 - 2025, sharing successes through sport, health, education and inclusion-based initiatives.

Community Trust CEO, John Hartley says, “We are incredibly proud of the positive difference that our team has had over the past 12 months. The impact report is not just a reflection of the numbers achieved, but the stories shared, the partnerships developed and the commitment to every project delivered. Our focus very much remains to inspire healthier more connected communities, and we’re excited to continue building on this success as we approach 2026.”

There's another new support group starting in Fleetwood next week.

Level Up: Fleetwood Families in Recovery will be hosting a drop-in on Thursdays from 27th November, based at The Volunteer Centre in The HUB. The volunteers will be sharing their lived-experience to help people struggling with addiction, homelessness, re-offending or mental health issues. Sessions will be from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, no booking required and refreshments will be available. The Volunteer Centre is on the North Albert Street side of the former Fleetwood Hospital building.

COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS

A round up of news, events and appeals ahead of the Festive season.

We are delighted to launch our Community Advent Calendar for 2025. On each of the first 24 days of December we will highlight an individual or a group making a difference in and around Fleetwood, supporting people to lead healthier, happier lives. We have a few ideas of our own but would love to hear your suggestions of who deserves to be recognised for their time, kindness or expertise.

Email listening@healthierfleetwood.co.uk or message us through our Facebook page with the name of the person or group and why you'd like to nominate them.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Fleetwood Together Christmas Appeal on Saturday afternoon at Highbury Stadium.

With gift, food and cash donations plus the profit from the 50/50 draw, over £1,000 was raised to help local families this Christmas. Thanks also to John and his team at Fleetwood Town Community Trust, everyone at Fleetwood Town FC for their support and to all the wonderful volunteers from Westview Community Association and Boathouse Youth Fleetwood. Town picked up a good point against table-topping Swindon and yours-truly enjoyed his half-time hot dog ... so a great day all round!

Healthier Fleetwood is a not-for-profit organisation supporting the physical and mental health of the Town's residents by connecting them to each other, services and voluntary groups in the community. As an individual's confidence grows they take more control of their own wellbeing and an active role in the decisions that affect them. We are independent of but work in close partnership with the many organisations supporting the community.
