Healthier Fleetwood Open Meeting - 12th November 2025

Our chair of residents Pauline thanked Emmanuel Church for their hospitality, welcomed everyone and invited them to share their Good News.

Heather, her family and friends have confirmed the venue for this year’s Christmas Dinner. It will be held at the Sea Cadet base but additional catering facilities are needed, supported by fundraising. There’s an event on 1st December from 5pm – a chance for the volunteers to meet and have some fun, community partners to get involved (stalls are welcome) and generate funds through a raffle.

John from Emmanuel Church was looking forward to ‘Sanctuary’ bringing together people from the community to share food and culture, in partnership with a number of charities. This is latest in the series of similar events and it’s hoped more will take place in the future. Elizabeth also mentioned the Christmas Crafts session on Saturday 29th November.

Colin was representing Fleetwood Rotary Club, celebrating 100 years since they were granted a charter. The Rota-Books promotion is going well with some great feedback from people finding the goodie-bags, and children enjoying the chance to read something new. Plans are well underway for this year’s Santa’s Sleigh, the route will be announced soon. Into next year, The Dragon Race will be a huge community event.

Positive Futures supports adults aged 16 – 64 with education, training, employment and volunteering opportunities, alongside hosting a number of wellbeing activities. They also encourage individuals to find their own path, perhaps to start a business. Luke told us about the start of an art support group which will lead to an exhibition of work AND a creative writing group starting soon. The team have put together a great list of helpful contact, available in several languages.

Pauline had recently attended an awareness event for the support available from Lancashire, Fire & Rescue Service including home safety checks. She encouraged everyone to check out what’s available and ask for help.

Jules from Fitness 50 has picked up more awards recently, recognising her work, offering specialist classes and support for people recovering from cancer, coping with dementia, and at risk of trips, falls. Step Back In Time, the dance and movement class is growing in popularity week on week and there will be more classes announced soon. The Christmas Appeal has already hit its target and working with Macmillan, will support those with cancer and their families.

KCA … Kick Cancer Away support group is now a Community Interest Company (CIC). This will open up new funding streams and partnerships. The group are helping individuals and families with practical support such as shopping, friendship and more. The fishing lake and place of reflection has been a great success and recently hosted a fireworks evening. KCA have put together some Safety Packs and Anxiety Packs, available for a donation from many community venues and groups. There’s no Christmas event this year but look out for details of something in early 2026.

Fleetwood Civic Society has been preserving and supporting the heritage of our Town for 50 years … hosting Open Days, creating the Fleetwood Blue Plaque Trail and much more. Meetings are held monthly plus events. New members are always welcome.

October was Domestic Violence Awareness Month, very busy for Behind Closed Doors, also now a CIC.  The team delivered several workshops in the community, focussing on Clare’s Law and coercive behaviour. This included joining the Empower Girls Hub group, an opportunity to work with younger people and this has led to parents reaching out, to be part of the conversations in the future. The ‘Clothesline’ project produced t-shirts with affirmations and powerful quotes from the Girls Hub – these will be displayed across the Community soon. The shop on Adelaide Street, now known as the Survivors Shop is seeing more visitors. Donations of items to make up packs, and offers from volunteers are welcome. Behind Closed Doors is also raising awareness of White Ribbon Day on 25th November, encouraging men to speak up against violence and abuse and help to create a world where women and girls are safe, equal, and respected.

Amy from Active Lancashire was attending her first Healthier Fleetwood meeting. In partnership with Sport England and Wyre Council, additional funding is coming to Fleetwood and the borough to encourage children and young people to become more active. Amy and her colleagues will be linking up Fleetwood Thrive, schools and community groups to start new groups and open up existing facilities more often. Inquiries from potential partners are very welcome. More details are due to be announced soon and will be shared through Healthier Fleetwood.

Rachel has recently joined the Fleetwood Social Prescribers, alongside ‘The Wendys’. She is enjoying her new role, meeting and hearing about all the great work in the community.

Allan and the volunteers at Fleetwood Community Comic Con have also been busy with Halloween fun & games, attending events across the Country and now looking forward to Christmas. The inaugural Fleetwood Comic Con was entirely supported by fundraising and they welcome any offers of help so the event can return in 2026.

David directed us to all the Christmas Markets and Party events. There’s also a series of free NHS health checks across the Town, hosted by Fleetwood Primary Care Network and Fylde Coast Medical Services.

Healthier Fleetwood joined Westview Community Association, Fleetwood Boathouse and Fleetwood Community Trust at the Fleetwood game with Swindon on Saturday, taking collections and raising awareness of the Fleetwood Together Christmas Appeal.

The next Healthier Fleetwood Open Meeting on Wednesday 3rd December will be a little different. Beforehand, from 2pm - 5pm, the Warm Matters event at Emmanuel will share advice on keeping yourself and your home warm and safe in the Winter months. The venue will stay open after 5 until we start the Open Meeting at 6.30pm and we will use the time to discuss ideas for the Pride In Fleetwood funding - £2m a year for 10 years to support Fleetwood Town Centre.

Mark updated that Lorraine Beavers MP wants to hear from all of the community and the Healthier Fleetwood meeting will be part or a series of consultation events. Expressions of Interest to be the Chair of the Pride In Fleetwood panel close on Monday 17th November at 9am.

Before we closed, Eric wanted to thank Pauline on everyone’s behalf for all her work, hosting the meetings and supporting many community events. We absolutely agree, thank you Pauline.

Healthier Fleetwood is a not-for-profit organisation supporting the physical and mental health of the Town's residents by connecting them to each other, services and voluntary groups in the community. As an individual's confidence grows they take more control of their own wellbeing and an active role in the decisions that affect them. We are independent of but work in close partnership with the many organisations supporting the community.
