GOOD NEWS - 19th February

Our new Information Centre at The Hub, within the Fleetwood Hospital building, is open and it was lovely to see so many visitors on the first day.

Among the early callers were a group of students from Shakespeare School, out and about in Fleetwood sharing random acts of kindness. Also pictured above are local resident and poet Anne, our Karen and volunteer Sam, and 'Roving Reporters' Reece & Sunny.

Initially, we will open the new Centre on Fridays 10am to 2pm, adding days as we settle in and other community facilities open.

A reminder we won't be able to offer hot drinks from the new space.

We know that's disappointing for some but it should only be a few weeks before the wonderful, new Community Cafe at The Hub opens next door and we will be working with the operators on drop-in events and activities.

Congratulations to the volunteers of Behind Closed Doors who recently celebrated 3 years of support for women and families affected by domestic violence.

Their amazing work has been recognised by several community awards, they will soon open their own hub in Fleetwood and are holding a fundraising event for the family of Kienna Dawes in the Summer.

To mark International Women's Day, they are also hosting a workshop event ...

'Accelerate Action' is a call for urgency, inclusion and transformative change. It signals that equality cannot wait, that all sectors of society must work together to quicken the pace of progress for women’s rights and empowerment. Speakers will explain what barriers and biases they believe women face in today's society.

The event will be held at Strive Community Cafe on Friday 7th March and there's an invitation to anyone who would like to speak and share their story.

Winter Nets for juniors at Under 10 and Under 15 ages began last Friday, indoors at Fleetwood High School and will be on each week from 6pm to 7.30pm.

Following the success of the Ladies Team, there's also a new Girls Cricket section launching next week.

For 10 weeks from Tuesday 25th February, indoor sessions (also at Fleetwood High) will offer coaching in the basics of batting, bowling and fielding, tactics and more.

Community venues offering a Warm Space for people to meet, enjoy a hot drink and perhaps some activities are encouraged to apply for funding to support their work.

Lancashire Warm Spaces Grant Scheme has been extended and is accepting applications from groups who haven't already received funding through this year's scheme.

Groups can apply for funding, dependent on how many days a week their warm space is open:

2 days a week or less - Up to £500

3-5 days a week - Up to £750

6-7 days a week - Up to £1000

The deadline for this round of the grant scheme is Sunday 2nd March.

The Bereavement Journey is a new, free initiative at Emmanuel Mount Church, Fleetwood for anyone in bereavement or preparing for the loss of a loved-one.

Over six weeks, attendees will discuss a number of topics around the emotional and practical challenges of this most difficult time including: the pain and responses of grief, anger and guilt, adjusting to change and moving forward. An optional seventh session will also offer support through faith, looking at grief and bereavement from a Christian perspective.

The first session is on Tuesday 25th February, 7pm to 9pm at Emmanuel on Mount Road, FY7 6RE.
