GOOD NEWS - 18th September
GOOD NEWS can come in many forms and this week's bulletin starts with two fantastic opportunities to support local residents' physical and mental health ...
Fleetwood Town Community Trust are recruiting for a Community Engagement Manager to join their senior management team. The successful candidate will contribute significantly towards the Trust's on-going wellbeing work with people across Fleetwood and Wyre, leading an award-winning team of staff.
This is a full-time, paid role - applications close at 5pm on Thursday, 10th October.
Our thanks to Rick Clement for his wonderful work in this role and the inspiration he brings to the community, our best wishes for his future challenges.
We know from our own experience how important it is to take time to listen, to be there when somebody wants to chat ... having a friend can make a huge difference.
Ahead of launching a new befriending service Wyre Council is seeking two part-time coordinators, one covering the Wyre borough, the other based in Fylde. The roles will collaborate to develop, implement and manage the befriending service and help reduce social isolation among vulnerable individuals.
We look forward to hearing more about the new befriending service and supporting their work in the future. Follow Wyre Council on Facebook for updates.
Open now are nominations for the new Wyre Community Awards!
These will recognise the important work voluntary, charitable and community organisations make in supporting their local communities. You can nominate a local not-for-profit voluntary, charitable, faith or social enterprise organisation in three categories:
* Making a difference to children
* Making a difference to adults
* Making a difference to the community
Also coming up ... Wyre Borough Council are hosting a conference for members of Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise groups.
Wyre Voluntary Communities Together Conference will be held on 16th October and will be a celebration of all the amazing work that goes on every day in local communities by the voluntary sector. It will also be an opportunity to network and learn from other groups about their journeys, the challenges they faced and how they overcame them.
The conference is a full day with a packed agenda. In addition to five speakers, there will be an expert panel Q&A session covering topics of private donors, grants and social value.
> With lunch included and limited places available, register here for your FREE tickets
(Each person wishing to attend must complete a separate application.)
Please note: The venue will be in Over Wyre, central to the borough and full details confirmed once registrations have been collated.
Completing this section on support for the voluntary sector, there's news of two funding opportunities ...
Wyre Circular Economy Grant is open for applications to support projects that use and develop skills in rural areas - Fleetwood is included. A circular economy is an approach to life where everything has a value and little is wasted. Funds must be spent by 28th February 2025, applications close on 6th October.
> Please email alisa.wilson@wyre.gov.uk for further details and to apply.
The Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund is inviting not-for-profit groups to apply for grants. The Fund is a registered charity set up in 1993 with the consent of Queen Elizabeth II to support local good causes and community initiatives.
