GOOD NEWS - 16th November

Following a wonderful, inspiring launch this week Fleetwood's Little Book of Hope is proving to be a BIG hit within the community.

The team who put the publication together were joined by local residents and community leaders at the North Euston on Monday afternoon to hear more and pick up a free copy. The new book contains poetry, words of comfort and beautiful images from Fleetwood, designed to offer support at a time of personal challenge like the loss of a loved-one.

The response so far has been amazing, most of the first print run of the books snapped up by an enthusiastic audience. Copies are being passed on by the Social Prescribers at their support groups and Healthier Fleetwood has a few available at our drop-ins, every Monday, Wednesday, Friday at the Library from 10am - 12noon. A second print of the 'Little Book' is being discussed and we will share information on when and how to get copies.

The Mental Health Foundation is creating a freely-available library of images that represent real people looking after their mental health.

Submissions from professional and amateur photographers are invited and it would be fantastic if some of the images came from the Fleetwood community! Your photos will be part of a new image library that shows real people doing the positive things we know can benefit mental health. Whether that’s exercising, being creative, socialising, experiencing nature, or learning something new. You don’t need to be a professional or have an expensive camera to take part and your photo could also win you up to £600 if chosen. > Visit the Mental Health Foundation website here to get involved.

And on a similar theme, Lancashire Mind would like your help as part of their work connecting mental health support across the County.

The charity has been commissioned to lead this project with the aim to gather insights and views from people who have lived experience of poor mental health or mental health services.

You can expect to hear plenty of 'lived experience' from a visitor coming to Fleetwood later this month ...

John Pridmore has a background in the violent world of East London gangland. Through the grace of God he has turned his life around and now travels the world, inspiring and helping people to change their lives for the good. John is coming to St Wulstan's Church, Poulton Road, Fleetwood for a 3-day Mission from Monday 27th to Wednesday 29th November. The community, of all faiths or none, is invited to attend ... admission is free, the talks start at 7pm.

International Men's Day is on Sunday, the theme of this year is 'Zero Male Suicide'.

A number of organisations and groups in the Fleetwood area offer tremendous support to men struggling with their mental health, loneliness or who just want somebody to chat to and share a few laughs with.

Leading the way are Men's Shed Fleetwood, and it's not an exaggeration to say that these guys have saved lives. From their base on Manor Road they host a number of activities which bring men together for advice, opportunities to learn new skills, brews and banter. > Follow the Men's Shed Fleetwood on Facebook

Fleetwood Town Community Trust provide a wide range of support helping local residents to set up the weekly Talking Men group and working with Fleetwood Town Flyers Walking FC to offer several popular sessions of football and friendship for men aged 50+.

The Trust is also holding a Men's Morning on Monday 20th November from 9.30am at the Poolfoot Sports Complex, Thornton. Pop in for a coffee, conversation and more. > More information on Facebook

In the next couple of weeks we'll be sharing information on the local venues opening as 'Warm Spaces' for the upcoming winter months.

Several have already started to offer free hot drinks and activities to residents so they can save on costs at home but also enjoy the wellbeing benefits of meeting and talking with other people. Funding of up to £500 is available to support Warm Space venues.
