GOOD NEWS - 11th September

There's a strong heritage theme to this week's GOOD NEWS ... celebrating some of Fleetwood's much-loved buildings and welcoming some exciting new attractions!

Thursday 12th September sees the launch of the Fleetwood Blue Plaque Trail with a special ceremony and the unveiling of the first three plaques.

Volunteers from Fleetwood Civic Society, Fleetwood Museum and other community groups have been working on this for the last year or so. Over the next few weeks the distinctive blue plaques will be placed on 10 sites starting from tomorrow at 2pm with the North Euston Hotel, Lower Light and the Pharos Lighthouse.

Local residents are welcome to attend the unveiling ceremony and enjoy following the full trail which can be viewed on the Visit Fleetwood website or look out for the printed guides around the Town.

This project has been funded and supported by the UK Government and Wyre Council and the launch comes during the Heritage Open Days 2024 - see website for What's On.

While you are walking around Fleetwood there are two stunning new murals to discover as part of The Big HeArts Project.

Local creatives have been joined by an internationally renowned artist to produce works which pay tribute to Fleetwood's fishing heritage and the people who shaped the industry.

Christian and Hayley, aka Seca One and Nomad Clan, have been working on the corner of Mount Street and Blakiston Street while Seba Cenar from Argentina has put his own trademark twist on the theme, literally.

The 'upside down' mural on the rear of Bernie Atherton's Carpets is best viewed from Preston Street and, as all art should, it has sparked a healthy conversation about its style and content.

With more to come The Big HeArt Project team are creating something amazing in Fleetwood that will bring in visitors, as well as be a source of community pride.

> Follow all the news from The Big HeArt project on the Facebook page here and there's an excellent video from Fleetwood In Focus on You Tube that's well worth a watch too.

Perhaps the new murals will inspire more creative ideas and encourage local residents of all ages to achieve their potential, just like these community groups ...

We hope everyone has fantastic day!
