GOOD NEWS: 3rd July

Hello again, we hope you are well. Another week, another change to what we can and can't do. There seems to be a mix of relief and apprehension in the community as more lock-down restrictions are lifted. With each step we can all do our bit to make the world a little bit safer and happier, by taking responsibility for our own health and for those around us. As always we take this opportunity to share just some of the good news stories we've heard about recently ...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NHS ... Sunday 5th July marks the 72nd anniversary of the wonderful National Health Service. Following the success of the 'clap for carers' evenings, the Country will come together once more at 5pm to show its appreciation for all the great work by the NHS during this emergency and since the service began in 1948.

... AND THANK YOU TO MARINE HALL To mark the NHS anniversary Marine Hall will be illuminated by blue light this weekend. We'd like to thank the staff at the venue and their Wyre Council colleagues for the support they have given the Town in recent months, hosting the Fleetwood Together response to COVID-19. Let's hope it's not too long before shows and events can resume at Marine Hall and our other live entertainment venues.

IT'S GOOD TO TALK We have some great communicators in Fleetwood, taking our community's story to a wider audience. The weekly updates by Dr Jim Gardner (Blackpool Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust) have also been an excellent example of sharing information in a professional and engaging manner.

SHOP SAFE, SHOP LOCAL ... These are incredibly tough times for everyone and businesses of all sizes are feeling the effects. Alongside the established shops and retailers that have supported the community it's great to hear about some local start-ups and successes ... like Ben's Bakes, Relax & Re-Mind and the joint venture between The Wool Loft and Threaders Boutique. You can read more about these on this page of our website. There will be many others, Good Luck to you all! For regular updates on local businesses visit Fleetwood Our Great Town on Facebook.

STEPS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION Highbury Morris Dancers are also looking to the future, offering a chance for girls from ages 3 years upwards to get involved. This year is about recruitment ahead of competing and attending community events in 2021. Contact details and on-line practices are on their Facebook page and you can support the group with a donation via Go Fund Me.

TAKE A FRESH LOOK AT THE WORLD Whether it be selfies or sunsets, we take photos on our phones and cameras almost everyday, Photography can be a great way to unwind from our stresses and capturing better images is very rewarding. Fiona is starting up a Photography For Wellbeing group in Fleetwood this month. Read more on this page of our website

... and Good Luck to Fleetwood Town FC in tonight's first leg of their League One play-off Semi-Final!

Until the next time ... Take Care and Stay Safe.
