REECE & SUNNY'S ROVING REPORTS - Santa's Sleigh with Fleetwood Rotary

On Monday evening Sunny and I joined Fleetwood Rotary members and various volunteers at Fleetwood Cricket Club as they set off walking around the Flakefleet and Broadwater areas of Fleetwood escorting Santa and his sleigh.

Sunny and I spoke with Janet, a long-standing member of Rotary who informed us that they have been doing this annual event around the streets of Fleetwood for nearly 30 years now. When Santa’s Sleigh started they originally collected tins of food from the public, they found due to the generosity of the kind hearted Fleetwood folk the sleigh could not take the strain of the amount of food they were given, the decision was made to ask the people of Fleetwood to donate money instead enabling Fleetwood Rotary to purchase food vouchers which they would distribute to a variety of families within the Fleetwood area.

Fleetwood Rotary usually distribute to between 200 and 250 families with these vouchers each year, to which they would like to say a ‘massive’ thank you to the good folk of Fleetwood, without their generosity and kindness it wouldn’t have been possible to help so many families over the decades and hopefully they will be able to continue to do so for many years to come.

Rotarian Janet said she loves the event, especially wen she has to run back to the sleigh as parents have asked for their children to have a personal shout out from Santa, as well as presenting Santa with all the children’s letters that are handed in whilst on their route around the neighbourhoods of Fleetwood.

Sunny and I really enjoyed our time on Monday evening going around with Santa, his helpers and the sleigh, to see first hand the joy and happiness that it brings to the children of Fleetwood when they hear the music and then see Santa coming down the road. I believe that we really are in the most magical time of year.

Talking of magical I was given a special message from Santa for all the boys and girls of Fleetwood “Santa hopes you’ve all have been good and well behaved this year and that he will see lots of happy, smiling faces giving him a wave over the next couple of weeks as he goes around Fleetwood. Santa would also like to say a special thank you to all his wonderful volunteers that help him in Fleetwood year upon year and Merry Christmas Everyone”

Sunny and I wish all our readers a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, we will look forward to seeing you in 2026 with more reports on our adventures in and round Fleetwood
