REECE & SUNNY'S ROVING REPORTS - JUST SING!
Just Sing Community Choir meet weekly on a Thursday evening. The group was set up by Katie Leonowicz, who has previously been a choir member, seeing for herself the benefits of bringing people together and how singing can improve both mental and physical health. Katie actively encourages everyone with a passion for singing to come along, you don’t need to be able to read music with all songs being learnt from lyrics.
The choir practice a variety of songs ranging from Dancing Queen by ABBA to You Raise Me Up by Westlife, with the harmonies giving their brains a bit of a workout, currently they’re looking to extend their repertoire from 2 to 3 part harmonies, they do like to challenge themselves but mainly they like to get together, have fun and learn new songs.
One of the choir members, Gemma saw a post on Facebook stating that you didn’t need to be able to read music or be a fantastic singer, all you needed was a passion for singing and fun. Whilst Gemma loves to sing, she found out that learning harmonies was a real thing. Gemma’s enjoyed learning how to sing the harmonies and the group being local to her is an added bonus.
Sunny and I found the group to have such a warm and welcoming atmosphere, everyone was so friendly, with lots of laughter whilst learning a variety of songs. We really enjoyed ourselves and even though we’re not the best singers, it was a lot of fun. If you have a desire to sing and perform, this could be the perfect group for you!
The choir has already performed a variety of events and is looking forward to singing at many more. If you’re organising an event that would be suitable for Just Sing Community Choir, please do not hesitate to contact Katie on 01253 852284.
