HEALTHIER FLEETWOOD OPEN MEETING - 4th March 2026

Pauline welcomed everyone to the meeting and as March is the 10th anniversary of Healthier Fleetwood, Mark led a chorus of Happy Birthday to get things started!
Kate from Wyre Council told us that the 2026 Great Outdoors brochure are out now (copies available from the Healthier Fleetwood Information Centre). Also Wyre Wheels was resuming again on Friday 6th March – adapted bicycles, trikes and handbikes ideal for people with a disability or recovering from illness or injury.
Maurice was representing Fleetwood Rotary this month, the group are celebrating their Centenary in 2026. The renamed Thursday Morning Club is proving popular – welcoming people with dementia and alzheimers, coping with the loss of a loved-one or who just need a friendly chat and a brew. Meetings are third Thursday of each month, 10.30am at Emmanuel Mount Church.
Rotary is also looking forward to their showpiece event – The Fleetwood Dragon Boat Race on Sunday 21st June, the boating lake. Charity/business teams of rowers are needed, boats are supplied.
The Hoarding Support group has been running for a few weeks now and Denise said that it’s already helping some of the members to cope with their condition. Meetings are held twice-monthly in Fleetwood and there is a referral pathway.

Karen mentioned that the Fleetwood team are holding an event on National Social Prescribing Day, Thursday 26th March at YMCA Sports Centre. Pop along to have a chat about how they can help support health and wellbeing and also meet some of the community partners they work with including Wyre Council and Healthier Fleetwood.
Also attending the Social Prescribing event will be the team from A Lifetime of Wisdom, the new podcast on wheels. Volunteers are invited to help with the project and to share their stories.
Lesley and the volunteers at KCA Cancer Support have been busy as always. They have been helping individuals on their cancer journeys including a special celebration for one lady, with the help of Karen from Jars of Joy. Eddie is one of the trustees and he’s offering his DJ services to local community groups and he’s been the driving force behind the fishing lake at Bispham, now named ‘KCA Kincraig Waters’.
Susan said numbers for the Wyre Flounders adult swimming club were picking up after the winter months, new members are still very welcome for the group who meet at Fleetwood YMCA pool on Saturday afternoons.

Pauline thanked Susan and Elizabeth for looking after the refreshments at the Healthier Fleetwood meetings and to John from Emmanuel Mount Church for his support. John added that the Church had just enjoyed a lunch for their congregation and new friends, and they will be hosting another Feast for the Nations event soon.
Emmanuel is one of the many churches offering Lent Lunches, also including United Reformed Church Fleetwood. The lunches raise around £1,000 each year for local or worldwide charities.
Jane from URC also added that they host the Local Vocals singing group every Tuesday morning – new members welcome, first session is free.
Dave has joined Healthier Fleetwood as our ‘Man Friday’ looking after the Information Centre at The HUB Fleetwood, and as a director. With vast experience in the area, Dave is keen to support the community to be more cyber-savvy, in particular when it comes to safely disposing of obsolete devices. These can be dropped off at Healthier Fleetwood for secure destruction, protecting your personal data.

Luke is looking forward to the first ever Wyre Move Fest Fleetwood featuring Ron’s Run. It’s an afternoon of gentle exercise and fun, in partnership with Wyre Moving More. To take part on the day, donations of food will be passed on to The Pantry Foodbank and/or period products to the Ember & Blossom CIC appeal.
Karen was looking ahead too … for the Jars of Joy event for International Women’s Day at The Grand Hotel, 8th March. This is a fundraiser for next year’s Joy Fest at Marine Hall in January 2026.
In his role as Chair of the board, Mark brought us up to date on what’s happening with Pride In Fleetwood. 19 board members have been selected – all ages, all backgrounds, all residents or working in the local community. There will be a meeting on Thursday 19th March to start discussing the suggestions from the consultation. Public can attend but not directly contribute – full details will be shared very soon. Further community engagement will take place to ensure that local residents decide how the funding is spent.
Anne, our community poet, closed the meeting with a reading of a special piece to mark 10 years of Healthier Fleetwood.
