GOOD NEWS - March 17th

Plans for Fleetwood to mark the Platinum Jubilee are continuing and there’s an invitation for all members of the community to get involved ...

The centre-piece of the celebrations is a ‘family picnic’ at Marine Hall Gardens on Saturday 4th June and this will include stalls as well as loads of live entertainment.

Potential stalls could include: arts and crafts; interactive sports; face painting; hair braiding; mobile gaming stations; festival makeup/temporary tattoos; carnival games; petting zoos and minibeast displays.Taking part is voluntary and there will only be 1 stall of each type in the events arena. If you can offer support by hosting a stall, with entertainment or as a volunteer, please contact the organising committee by email to either cedo@fleetwoodtowncouncil.org.uk or sam.denney2022@gmail.com.

With energy usage and its impact always in the news, Fleetwood Market has taken a step towards becoming net zero carbon.

The venue has been awarded just under £1 million to install renewable energy technology as part of the Government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. This will support the Council’s aim to reduce emissions by at least 78% by 2035.

Have you heard about the iNaturalist app which helps you connect with nature, to explore and share your observations from the natural world.

This app is great for people who want to know more about their environment, it’s a forum to ask questions, find information and share your discoveries in words and images - so it's great for a coastal location like Fleetwood!

The team at The Bay: A Blueprint For Recovery are hosting an introduction to the app next week - it is already fully booked - but visit The Bay’s website for details of their work and other forthcoming events.

A reminder the popular Fleetwood Indoor & Outdoor car boot sale is on this and every Sunday morning and early afternoon.

It’s held in the former Refurb unit on Navigation Way, off Copse Road, open from 9am to 2pm and it’s FREE entry! There's regularly over 75 stalls, a tea room, a tent selling full English breakfast and hot food, mini garden centre, tuck shop, toilets and it’s dog friendly.

If you'd like a pitch, call 07935 898624.

It’s our next Chatter Café morning at the YMCA Lofthouse Building, London Street on Friday 25th March.

Drop in 10 - 11.30am for a brew, to meet with other local residents, members of the Healthier Fleetwood & Social Prescribing teams and to find out what’s happening in your community.

If you've not been to a Chatter Cafe before it's the building opposite the Health Centre / Mount View Surgery.

We are taking inquiries from partner organisations to join us in our Wellbeing and Community Information Centre, Affinity Lancashire during April.

Regular partners include MacMillan Cancer Support on Tuesdays, Wyre Council’s ‘Just Reminiscing’ on the first Friday of the month, West Fleetwood Computer Club on the third Friday (with us tomorrow, 18th March) and the Fleetwood Social Prescribers. From next month we will be hosting a regular drop-in with Lancashire County Council’s fostering team - other events are being confirmed. Please contact Healthier Fleetwood through the channels at the foot of this newsletter, if you’d like to know more about the Information Centre.

Fleetwood continues to attract attention for its amazing community spirit.

In the last week we’ve been contacted by two neighbourhoods, one as far away as Norfolk, who want to learn more about how residents, voluntary groups, the NHS and all the local organisations work together.

We’ll be speaking to these soon and as appropriate, inviting them to Fleetwood to see for themselves what’s happening and perhaps take some ideas back with them.

Please get in touch with us if you need any further information on anything you've read in this bulletin and send in your news and events for future editions. Until the next time, take care.
