GOOD NEWS - December 16th

With the latest COVID guidance starting to take effect some community activities are being disrupted and we must all make decisions on what our priorities are.

Thanks to the efforts and dedication of staff and volunteers many groups and events are continuing and while they do, we are pleased to pass on their Good News ...

Starting on Friday 17th December, Fleetwood Market hosts an exhibition of work by creative artists based in the Market Studios.

The exhibition can be viewed on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until 8th January (excluding closures for Christmas).

Work from the artists is also available to buy so you might also solve a present problem or two!

We were delighted to hear that funding for the wellbeing classes from LPM Dance has been extended into 2022.

Following their successful ‘Fleetwood Moves’ mini-festival in Summer, LPM have been hosting a day of dance for adults every Thursday at Barbara Jackson Centre, Farmer Parrs.

The line-up includes separate sessions of ballet, inclusive dance for individuals with or without a disability and a specialist class for those living with Parkinson’s.

LPM are also planning a special community event at Fleetwood Library for next year - details will be confirmed soon.

With the schools breaking up for the holidays there’s plenty of excitement at the approach of Christmas and it's lovely to hear that traditions like carol concerts are being maintained.

Children from Chaucer Primary School entertained the staff and residents at Regenda's Lighthouse View apartments earlier this week.

We take this opportunity to say thank you to the teachers and staff at all our local schools and nurseries who have worked so hard, maintaining the education of the children while keeping them safe and active.

And there are some wonderful young people out there ... like 10 year old Lewis Smith.

Lewis has been organising a Christmas Toy Appeal for Fleetwood Together with the donated items being passed on to families in need of support.

There’s also a Go Fund Me page open to raise money to buy more items.

Well done Lewis!

Opening hours for our Wellbeing & Community Information Centre at Affinity Lancashire are a little different next week …

The Centre will be open on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 20th - 22nd December between 10am and 4pm then closed for the Christmas and the New Year holidays.

At the time of writing our intention is to reopen again on Tuesday, 4th January and then review according to the COVID guidance in place then. The space is well ventilated and there’s plenty of room to maintain social distancing so do please call in if you are at Affinity in the run-up to Christmas.

If you prefer to keep in touch another way, please email us listening@healthierfleetwood.co.uk or leave a message on 07399 093835.

Until the next time, take care.
