Our libraries have been 'community hubs' for many years and the Fleetwood branch on North Albert Street has always been a welcoming, safe environment, offering a wide range of activities for local residents of all ages. The schedule includes arts & crafts for all abilities, coffee mornings and friendship groups, board games, music and singing, learning opportunities and events. Families and younger visitors can enjoy loads of fun and games, and support from the Wyre Family hub team, also based at Fleetwood Library.

They're creating a safe, exciting and inspiring outdoor play area. Do you have any items that could be donated to this? Wooden planks, buckets, gardening tools, pots and pans for the 'mud kitchen', blankets and cushions, old electronics like phones and cameras that don't work but can be used for play.
Do you have a spare hour to help inspire young people? The annual Careers Day is due to be held on Tuesday 16th June, for an hour in the morning. This is a popular event and something the children look forward to each year. Come along to promote a career to the children that may change their future.

The domestic football season is drawing to a close but it's still a busy time at Fleetwood Town's Highbury Stadium.
Recognised as player who goes above and beyond in the community, alongside his efforts on the pitch, Ronan Coughlan was announced as the the Club's PFA Community Champion for 2025/26. Fleetwood Town Community Trust say, "From delivering an inspiring talk to students about overcoming long-term injury, to spending time with disabled supporters at the training ground, and supporting the Trust’s Christmas campaign, his impact has been felt far beyond football. Ronan also played a key role in campaign in February, raising vital funds and awareness for The Pantry Foodbank."
Our congratulations to Ronan on a well-deserved award.
There were celebrations too for Fleetwood Town Flyers Walking Football Club.
The players enjoyed their annual, friendly 13-a-side game on the Highbury pitch over the Bank Holiday weekend. Two squads made up from members who attend the Flyers three weekly sessions competed for the trophy. This year the Reds won 7 - 5, before everyone enjoyed the post-match social. Thank you to Rob for calling in to see Healthier Fleetwood recently and update on the Men's Support group which meet at Fleetwood Community Fire Station.
After many years of wonderful voluntary work, Mike has stepped down from leading the group, so Rob and his friends will be hosting the weekly sessions in the future. The group is for adult males, aged 18 and over to meet and talk about wellbeing topics such as low-mood, depression and anxiety ...in confidence and without fear of being judged. They meet 7pm - 9pm on Mondays in the upstairs community room (a lift is available) ... it's free to attend and there's a brew.
Thank you to Mike, Rob and everyone involved in this wonderful group.

'Spirit of Fleetwood', will be a 9-foot illuminated community puppet, co-created with local residents through a series of free, inclusive workshops across Fleetwood and the surrounding area.
Led by artist Janine Walker for Fleetwood Arts CIC, the workshops will bring people together to build a striking, weather-resistant puppet using sustainable materials. Sessions will cover structural making, batik textile panels, surface decoration, and simple lighting elements. Stories, symbols, and reflections connected to Fleetwood and its coastline will be woven into the puppet's skirt and cloak making her a true emblem of this place and its people.
Designed to be operated by a single puppeteer from within, with rod-controlled arms, the finished figure will be perfect for community events, lantern parades and light festivals. It's our hope that Spirit of Fleetwood will become a cherished shared asset, reappearing at local celebrations for years to come.
The first workshop is coming up next week ...
Wednesday 13th May from 9:30am - 12noon at Strive Community Cafe
Fleetwood Arts say, "We'd love to hear what you think should decorate her skirt. Think Fleetwood landmarks, iconic people, places and organisations and the historical and cultural moments that make this town special. Let's make 'Spirit of Fleetwood' a true emblem of Fleetwood's past, present, and future!"

... AND FINALLY
May marks the 6th anniversary of the Good News bulletins!
Originally started to share important information during the early days of the Covid pandemic, the emails changed to this format in May 2020 and other than a few gaps for the Christmas holidays have been sent out every week since. With up to 10 articles on the positive side of life in Fleetwood each week and a guide to What's On, it's a tribute to everyone in the local community that there's so much GOOD NEWS to share!
If you receive this bulletin in time, we hope to see you at Emmanuel Mount Church this evening from 6.30pm for our monthly Open Meeting. Come along to find out what's happening in the Town, how to get involved and to share updates from your group. Also at this meeting we'll enjoy a presentation by volunteers from the National Coastwatch Institute team based in Fleetwood, sharing more about their work and also water safety advice.
We look forward to seeing you.
Keep sending in your GOOD NEWS to share with the Fleetwood community.
Until the next time, take care.
