GOOD NEWS: 4th September

Hello again, we hope you are safe and well. This week we're delighted to share news of some forthcoming events and opportunities to get out and about ...

Last year Healthier Fleetwood and other local partners including the Fleetwood Trust and Harmony & Health supported MacMillan Cancer to hold a coffee morning at the North Euston.  It was a great success with around 100 guests and over £650 was raised for the charity.

This year of course, things are very different but MacMillan Coffee Mornings are still going ahead on Friday 25th September. If you are planning to hold a safe, socially distanced coffee morning at a group, workplace or in your own home, we’d love to hear from you. We're working with the MacMillan team based at Victoria Hospital which also covers the Fleetwood area and they can support you, maybe even pop along to say hello. Please let us know what you are doing so we can help. Events can be held on any day around the 25th and more information including how to get a fundraising kit is available at macmillan.org.uk

Saturday 10th October is World Mental Health Day and Healthier Fleetwood is joining with local community groups to share some of the many ways residents can support their wellbeing. The idea is to put together a virtual event on the day, maybe with a few safe, socially distanced activities too.

It could be you post a video on your Facebook page sharing what your groups has to offer, or the positive experiences of one of your members or just a message to say there is somebody there to listen and be a friend. We’ll also include links to some of the organisations who provide specialist mental health support. Healthier Fleetwood will coordinate the contributions but this is not our event, it’s Fleetwood’s event! If you’d like to be involved please email listening@healthierfleetwood.co.uk and along with the other partners we’ll share more news in the weeks leading up to the 10th October.

Local partners have come together to relaunch the popular health walks and health rides in Fleetwood and Wyre.  The ‘walk & talks’ are Thursdays, starting from Marine Hall at 1pm and lasting about an hour. Suitable for all ages, these are a great way to meet new people and support your mental and physical health.

If cycling is for more you, supervised group sessions are every Friday between 10am and 11am, also starting at Marine Hall. These are primarily for adults, bikes and helmets are available if you don’t have your own. Both these groups are presented by Fleetwood Town Community Trust, Active Lancashire and Wyre Council supported by Sport England. For further information please contact josh.handley@fleetwoodtownfc.com or telephone 07734 968937

Staying with the outdoors, Fleetwood Wellbeing Way is a great success! Since its launch a few weeks ago local residents and visitors have followed the Esplanade route between the Sea Cadet base and the old Pier site marked by banners and posters based on the Five Ways of Wellbeing.

The group is also approaching 1,000 members on Facebook sharing their challenges and experiences and this week organisers of the Fleetwood Wellbeing Way were interviewed by Andy Mitchell of BBC Lancashire. The feature will be broadcast on the breakfast show tomorrow (Saturday 5th September) around 7.50am. Well done to everyone involved in this resident-led initiative.  Find BBC Lancashire at 95.5 / 103.9FM or listen on-line here.

We’ve mentioned many times the powerful impact the arts can make on wellbeing.

Fleetwood has a strong partnership of talented individuals and organisations that work together to deliver community arts projects.

In the next few weeks we’ll be sharing news of opportunities for residents to get involved in activities that will focus on art and creativity. If you’d like to be included please email listening@healthierfleetwood.co.uk so we can keep you updated.

Until the next time ... Take Care and Stay Safe.
