GOOD News: 30th June

We wouldn't normally start with a COVID update but a reminder that the 'vaccine van' is out and about on the Fylde Coast this week and in Fleetwood on THURSDAY 1st JULY.

Head to the YMCA, Fleetwood on the Promenade between 10am and 4pm. There’s no appointment required to receive your first dose of the Pfizer vaccine, just turn up and get your jab. > Further information is available on the Fylde Coast CCG website.

We were delighted to welcome Fleetwood’s MP, Cat Smith, to the Community Information Centre at Affinity last week.

Healthier Fleetwood’s Karen Boylan showed her round the centre and shared some of the activities available to residents to support their health and wellbeing. Cat and her colleagues were in Town visiting a number of local businesses and groups including Flakefleet School, the Beach Wheelchairs and Fleetwood Hospital.

As well as welcoming some of the major organisations working in Fleetwood to take space in the Centre at Affinity, we'd be delighted to hear from community partners, voluntary groups and individuals.

Many people have taken the opportunity during the lockdown to start new ventures and if you have an appropriate business or activity that supports better health and wellbeing, we can offer space to engage with the public.

Nicky Gee got in touch and will be with us next Wednesday 7th July, 11am to 2pm, to tell people about her Reiki and Crystal therapy and the following week, the 14th July, Michelle Brereton will have a selection of books and toys suitable for children with dyslexia, autism and ADHD.

You'll notice that we will be open on Wednesdays now as well as Tuesdays and Fridays, 10am to 4pm. We'll share more about our future guests and partners across social media in the next 2 weeks.

For the start of the month, Wyre Council’s Great Outdoors new programme of activities and events is now available.

As always it’s a varied and interesting line-up of health walks, conservation days, bike rides, family fun and more across the borough including many opportunities to enjoy the fresh air and open spaces of Fleetwood. See the Wyre Council website for the full What’s On guide.

Also updating their challenges and activities for July are the lovely folks of the Fleetwood Wellbeing Way.

Visit their Facebook page to find out more or take a walk along the Promenade between the old pier site and the Log Cabin to find the challenges on the bus stop signs.

If you fancy taking a health & wellbeing course on-line, or hopefully later in the year in person, check out opportunities with Lancashire Adult Learning.

In September there's a programme of horticulture courses suitable for organisations working with individuals who would benefit or for residents who want to sign up themselves. The virtual launch event is on Wednesday 7th July between 10am and 11.30am. Register for the launch here or contact danielle.thorpe@nelsongroup.ac.uk - all those signing up in time will receive the video link and the resources they will need.

Lastly, it’s hard to ignore the fact that football’s European Championships are on at the moment and England are doing well - here’s hoping the ‘feel good’ factor continues a little longer!

Until the next time, take care.
