GOOD NEWS - 29th July
The BIG FOOD PROJECT is a flexible membership scheme where you only pay for the weeks you choose to attend, and pick up a a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables and useful cupboard staples ... and it is coming to Fleetwood!
From its beginning as a small initiative at Blackpool Food Bank in 2012, this registered charity aims to ensure no one in Blackpool, Fylde, and Wyre goes hungry. Now very much a collaborative effort, bringing together over 120 local organisations the Fleetwood service will launch on Friday 14th August.
Members will typically receive food worth at least four times their membership fee, helping them make their household budget go much further. You can choose the membership that suits your household:
Individual: £5
Family: £8
Family Plus: £16
Joining is easy! Text your full name and the word JOIN to 07441 442435. You'll receive a welcome message and will be contacted at the beginning of each week so you can confirm if you would like to attend. No need to come every week and you only pay when you do.
The Big Food Project is all about 'Great food, affordable prices and less waste'.

Fleetwood resident Rick Clement is a finalists for the 'Soldier On Awards' recognising individuals whose actions, achievements and determination have inspired others across the Armed Forces community.
Rick is well known in Fleetwood and has taken on many challenges in recent years, raising awareness and funds to support veterans and their families including a 24-hour gym session and a 5km swim.

Several fitness classes have been announced this week although one of them is more of a new twist on an old favourite!
Fleetwood Town Community Trust will host two FREE sessions for adults focussing on strength, mobility and functional fitness. Delivered by a qualified personal trainer who has developed a bespoke programme, classes are at the Youth Hub space, North Albert Street.
Mondays: 2pm - 3pm ... Strength, Balance and Mobility
Wednesday 10am - 11am ... Functional Fitness & Gentle Cardio

Bouncing back after a short break is Step Back in Time dance and movement group, great for combatting isolation and anyone with dementia or a debilitating condition.
Jules Brooks is restarting this popular group at Larkholme Community Centre on Mondays from 11.30am to 12.15pm and also adding the fun and energy of her Retro Ravers sessions. Pop along for good moves, good music and to make good memories!

In the last week or so Healthier Fleetwood has receive two separate, kind donations of arts and crafts materials.
We're passing these on to crafting groups including those at Fleetwood Library and Strive Fleetwood, and to community groups like Fleetwood Men's Shed who, as always, are supporting local families. The materials will mean hours of fun and companionship and we're looking forward to seeing what the groups create.
There's a clear and valuable connection between engaging with the arts, in any form, and an individual's wellbeing. We see this in our community ... as people learn new skills and discover talents, take part in events as a performer or by helping as a volunteer ... their self-confidence grows, they feel happier and healthier.

The cricket season may be in full swing but the traditional winter sports resume soon and Fleetwood Ladies Rugby Club will be back in action!
Pre-season starts Wednesday 5th August, and the Club is welcoming new players of all levels. Training runs from 7pm - 8pm at Fleetwood Rugby Club, Melbourne Avenue.
The Club say, "Perfect for brand‑new players, returning legends, and anyone who wants to give rugby a go without needing to know what a ruck is ... we’ll teach you, slowly, gently and with snacks. Fleetwood Town Community Trust are running a Summer Club for children.
FREE activities include park sports, beach fun, day trips, arts & crafts and more hosted at the Poolfoot Sports Complex, Memorial Park and at their Youth Hub on North Albert Street.
Fleetwood Museum continue their twice weekly arts & crafts for children.
Held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, at 11am or 1pm the sessions are FREE for ages 4 - 11 years with an accompanying adult. Please telephone the Museum on 01243 876621 to book.

Final tip - Preventing identity theft
When you are disposing of any device used on the internet it is essential that all your personal data is wiped from the device before disposal. This applies to Phones; Tablets; Laptops and Desktops, even connected watches. Simply erasing storage devices doesn’t mean that the information is irrecoverable, a further process is needed - writing over the data.
If you are disposing of devices which contain personal data you can drop them off at Healthier Fleetwood in The HUB, with your email address attached, and they will be erased before disposal. This is completely FREE but please note, no repairs or returns.

... have you noticed the recent, wonderful makeover to the boat-planter on the junction of Broadway and The Strand?
It's another lovely community project by the folks at the Larkholme Wombles supported by Huws Gray builders merchants and creative artist Heather Johnstone. There's just some finishing touches like edging for the stones and adding the boat's name 'Sir Peter Hesketh-Fleetwood' but it's already a fantastic welcome to the Town. Well done and a huge thank you to everyone involved.
