Last week saw another great example of the way organisations and local residents engage with each other in Fleetwood.
Having already enjoyed a visit to meet the team and see the wonderful Strive Fleetwood, Debbie from The Mount View Practice & Lancaster University escorted a group of student doctors to discover what's happening at The HUB Fleetwood. They learned how the many partners are able to make a difference, offering a range of services in Fleetwood, without the cost and stress of travelling to Blackpool or further.
Kelly from Coach and Shine CIC was hosting the Becoming More Me support group and several members joined in with the conversations. They shared their experiences and thoughts on how healthcare and community should listen to each other and work together for better outcomes.
Debbie says, "It was great to connect with everyone and we're looking forward to exploring how our student doctors at Lancaster University Medical School can work in partnership with the Fleetwood community."
Congratulations to the winners at this week's Wyre Community Awards for 2025.
If you were at the presentation event yesterday you'll know that Stuart Baird, a volunteer at Fleetwood Memorial Park and Fleetwood Methodist Church were recognised for their fantastic work in the local community. Well done to them and all the other worthy winners and nominees.
Have you seen the fabulous new mural taking shape outside Fleetwood Market?
Talented artists Jerry and Chris have been preparing a wall and creating a large scale tribute to the Town's landmarks. With the weather now starting to be an issue, work is likely to pause for the Winter months and resume in Spring 2026 but it's well worth checking out the progress so far.
... and creative artists are invited to consider the spaces at Fleetwood's Market House Studios.
Workshop and gallery units are available for hire on a variety of terms and lengths of contract. If you'd like to find out more, please contact the studio coordinator for details adrian.pritchard@wyre.gov.uk
There's news of a change of management for Fleetwood Leisure Centre.
Wyre Council's Cabinet has agreed to appoint Parkwood Leisure as the new operator for leisure centres in Fleetwood, Garstang, Poulton and Thornton. This follows an extensive and competitive procurement process designed to secure the best possible outcome for residents and communities. This decision is now subject to a scrutiny call-in period before it is implemented next year.
Wellbeing Bingo with Volunteer Centre Wyre has been great fun but so with many exciting projects ahead, it's time to hand over the reigns and the dabbers!
The FREE sessions will continue alternately at two community venues:
* Strive Cafe at Flakefleet from Tuesday 9th December then fortnightly.
* Heart of the Hub Cafe on Monday 15th, then every 2 weeks.
There's no need to book - just turn up for 1.30pm and have fun!
Fleetwood is fortunate to have some many vibrant and supportive community hubs and there's a new addition to the list.
Lighthouse View is an extra care development on Chatsworth Avenue, built and managed by Regenda Homes. Around 80 residents enjoy the excellent facilities and also the opportunity to socialise with their friends and neighbours and now, with visitors too!
The team from Trust in the Community have been running the cafe space and hosting events for some time, they will be opening the doors to non-residents ahead of the festive period ...

COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS
Details of the route for Santa's Sleigh have been shared by his friends at Fleetwood Rotary. This year's tour starts in the Broadwater and Flakefleet areas on Monday 8th, covering pretty much all of the Town over the next two weeks.
Thank you to Furness Building Society for their generous contribution to the Fleetwood Together Christmas Appeal. £500 was presented to Fleetwood Town Community Trust for the appeal, support which will help provide festive encouragement to families across the local community.
AND FINALLY ... the conversations at the Healthier Fleetwood Open Meeting on Wednesday included ideas for the Pride in Fleetwood funding. We gathered plenty of suggestion forms to pass on to Lorraine Beaver's office as part of the consultation. Printed copies are also available from our Information Centre at The HUB. The last of the scheduled events to Have Your Say on this exciting opportunity for our Town is on 8th December, 5pm - 7pm at Warrenhurst Senior Citizen's Hall, Fisherman's Walk.
