It's Armed Forces Week and as always the Fleetwood Community is there for veterans and serving personnel with support and events.

Last weekend saw many flag-raising ceremonies across the Country and locally veterans joined a walk from the Lower Lighthouse to The Mount on Sunday morning.

At the Fleetwood Town Community Trust veterans garden, their flag was raised on Tuesday - the garden is one of the many ways the Trust offer support. Regular activities include:

  • Walk and Talk sessions

  • Gardening Club

  • Online Zoom session for those experiencing isolation or mobility challenges

  • Coffee Morning at the garden

  • Veterans Football Team training at Fleetwood Town Rugby Club

There's also regular social events, and health and wellbeing support available.

Thank you to Tony and the team at the Trust for all their hard work and care.

The Blue Light Bimble & Brew group also offer friendship to veterans, serving personnel and in this case, for members of the emergency services too. They meet in Fleetwood most weeks for a brew, sometimes a walk or an activity depending on the weather.

LOOKING AHEAD ... July kicks off with another busy weekend we'll have a full preview next week.

There's also something a little different coming to Fleetwood later in the month!

What do you get when you cross a troupe of sideshow performers, a gaggle of gossiping landladies and three seagull goddesses? The answer is ... Sideshows, Seagulls and Shanties!

This new show, from Blackpool-based creative company The Old Electric, uses songs, movement, aerial, puppetry, poetry and a pinch of the preposterous to showcase short stories inspired by local people, places and histories.

St Nicholas Church on Broadway is hosting a special performance of the show on Saturday 11th July at 11am. Tickets are FREE with a refundable deposit of £2.50pp.

IN AND AROUND FLEETWOOD ...

The Pride in Fleetwood board are seeking ideas and feedback from the community on two topics identified by the public consultation last year.

What does accessibility means to you! If you read this copy of the Good News in time, there's a drop-in event at North Euston Hotel, Fleetwood this evening (Wednesday 24th June) 4.30pm to 6.30pm to share your thoughts. It might be wheelchair friendly ramps into a paddling pool, smoother pavements on Lord Street, free activities for local children, better signposting with clearer writing, more seating, or many other things. There's no need to pre-book, just come along to join the conversation.

In partnership with Play Inclusion Project the Pride in Fleetwood board is gathering views on the local SEND provision (Special Educational Needs and Disability). This consultation will help ensure that the voices of children, young people, parents and carers influence decisions on funding over the next 5 years.

For any inquiries regarding Pride in Fleetwood and their work in the community please email info@prideinfleetwood.uk or visit the official website here.

Fleetwood Town Community Trust and Lancashire Mind now offer FREE mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people.

The sessions combine virtual wellbeing coaching service with face to face support and are held every other Wednesday at the Youth Hub, North Albert Street from 6pm - 8pm. For any further information email community@fleetwoodtownfc.com

This current spell of very hot weather isn't for everyone but the new outdoor area at The HUB Fleetwood is a great place to enjoy the sunshine!

Next to the Heart of The Hub Cafe you can grab a hot or cold drink, something to eat and meet the wondeful team of staff and volunteers from One Fylde. The cafe is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to around 2.30pm using the Bold Street or carpark entrances of the former Fleetwood Hospital building and call in to say hello to us at Healthier Fleetwood too!

AND FINALLY ... congratulations to Cheryl and the team of volunteers at Fleetwood Carnival.

Held in glorious sunshine, the event included the traditional parade along the Esplanade and through the Town Centre. Big crowds turned out to wave and support the floats, community groups, bands and local residents in fancy dress like the Scarecrows and Donkeys! A huge amount of work goes into planning this event, particularly this year. Thank you.

Healthier Fleetwood is a not-for-profit organisation supporting the physical and mental health of the Town's residents by connecting them to each other, services and voluntary groups in the community. As an individual's confidence grows they take more control of their own wellbeing and an active role in the decisions that affect them. We are independent of but work in close partnership with the many organisations supporting the community.
