For anyone aged 16-25 and out of education and employment recruiting for the next King’s Trust programme, formerly The Prince’s Trust, is now open!

In partnership with Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service and based at Fleetwood Community Fire Station, the course starts on Monday 21st September for 12 weeks. It's an opportunity for the young people to:

  • Build their confidence

  • Gain new skills

  • Enhance their employability

  • Make new friends

The programme is accredited through Preston College meaning the participants gain a qualification in Employability, Teamwork and Community Skills. Not only this but they are able to receive bursary payments while on the course to help with travel and lunch costs etc. With a residential week away, work placement opportunities, many fantastic guests and the chance to learn/practice fire safety, the time flies but it is very fun and rewarding.

Fleetwood Town Community Trust have a number of vacancies at the moment.

Paid full-time and part-time roles include Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Media and Communications Officer, Sports Tutors and Coaches and for Youth Workers.

Improving the prospects for local residents through education, training and work opportunities is central to the ethos of all the partners at The HUB Fleetwood.

Adam Lent is a Senior Consultant for The King's Fund - a highly respected and proactive independent charity working to improve health and care in England. A regular visitor to Fleetwood, Adam has recently published an article on the King's Fund website which celebrates the successes of local residents, community organisations and the NHS, and looks ahead to what the future may bring. Healthier Fleetwood is delighted to be included alongside many community partners mentioned in the article.

And the next round of free NHS Health Checks have started at The HUB.

- dates are available on 15th July and every two weeks until the end of August.

Even though you might be feeling great, you may be at risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, diabetes or dementia. Free NHS Health Checks are available for anyone aged 40 to 74 years and Free Mini Health Checks for anyone over 18 to 39 years. Bookable appointments will be every 30 minutes from 9.30am to 4.30pm from the Thrive Centre on the North Albert Street side of the former hospital building.

Like his fellow Fleetwood Rotarians, Maurice Dowsing offers his time to good causes in the community and this month he's jumping out of a plane, with a parachute, to support Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs!

Maurice says, "I wanted to do something special for my 80th year so, I intend to do a Skydive at Pilling on the 9th July in celebration of Fleetwood Rotary's 100th year who helped in founding the Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs to provide free access to our beautiful beach for wheelchair users, their family and friends."

As we approach the end of the school year, Westview Community Association have opened up their Uniform Bank.

Donations of clean, good quality shirts, trousers, skirts, blazers, ties, socks and shoes for any of the local schools will be greatly appreciated. If you have any items to offer, please drop them off to the Centre on Eden Avenue until the 3rd August. Distribution of the uniform will begin on the 10th August.

> Telephone: 01253 870133

We've been contacted about an opportunity for care workers and receptionists to be part of a recruitment campaign on behalf of the Department of Health & Social Care.

The campaign celebrates the incredible impact of adult social care and the meaningful relationships that develop between care workers and the people they support. Its aim is to encourage people to consider a career in adult social care. Applications close on 9th July. Filming will take place in August and there is a fee for your involvement.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the 'Songs Through The Decades' concert at St Peter's Church.

The event raised an amazing £1,100 for The Pantry Foodbank in Fleetwood, making a huge difference to their work.

LOOKING AHEAD ... more details of the NEW Fleetwood Food, Fish and Music Festival have been released.

This takes place at Fleetwood Market over the weekend of 14th - 16th August 2026.

There’s something for everyone with a packed programme of entertainment and activities, including live music and entertainment; live cooking demonstrations from talented local chefs; traditional funfair for all ages; heritage stalls and displays, including Fleetwood Museum and its maritime collections.

A highlight of the festival will be the much-anticipated return of an historic competition on the Friday ...

Calling all primary school-aged children ... could you be Fleetwood’s next Fish Queen or King? Dive into fin-tasy tradition and dress to impress. Whether you're a sparkling mermaid, mighty merman or cheeky sea creature, let your imagination swim wild. The competition will be judged by the Mayor, bringing back a Fleetwood tradition not seen since 1939!

> Register your interest by email to fleetwoodmkt@wyre.gov.uk

Fleetwood Folk Club have announced the dates of this year's Festival.

The event will take place from 3rd to 7th September at The Strawberry Gardens on Poulton Road, Fleetwood. Full details of the line-ups will be shared nearer the time. The weekly folk sessions continue at the venue on Thursday evenings at 8.30pm - FREE admission with donations to charity.

CYBER SECURITY TIPS ... 5

Returning after a short power-down, Lancashire Police and Healthier Fleetwood volunteer Dave Carlos shares advice regarding online safety.

Update your devices ... Most devices will offer you updates on a regular basis. The National Cyber Security Centre say that you should always update your devices as soon as possible after they are offered by the manufacturers. Put simply, they will increase the safety and security of your systems. Turn on the automatic updates - it is one of the easiest and quickest ways to increase your online safety.

Next time ... Back-up your data, it’s important!

AND FINALLY ... a reminder that we DON'T have a Healthier Fleetwood Open Meeting this month.

It was scheduled for this evening (1st July) but as there's an England World Cup game due to kick off at 5pm, we've postponed our get-together until 6.30pm, Wednesday 5th August. Here's hoping that Harry, Jude and the lads do their part and we're all celebrating later!

Keep sending in your GOOD NEWS to share with the Fleetwood community.

Until the next time, take care.

Healthier Fleetwood is a not-for-profit organisation supporting the physical and mental health of the Town's residents by connecting them to each other, services and voluntary groups in the community. As an individual's confidence grows they take more control of their own wellbeing and an active role in the decisions that affect them. We are independent of but work in close partnership with the many organisations supporting the community.
