Wyre Council has today officially welcomed Parkwood Leisure, working in partnership with the charitable organisation Creating Active Futures, as the new operators of the borough’s leisure centres including Fleetwood.
The contract marks the start of a programme designed to modernise facilities, enhance the customer experience and support residents to lead healthier, more active lives. Residents will begin to see improvements almost immediately, with a coordinated programme of upgrades planned across each of the four centres in the borough.
At the Fleetwood centre this will involve an upgraded gym and sports hall, improved wet side changing areas and external redecoration. Alongside physical upgrades, customers will see refreshed on‑site information from April, including welcome posters, development boards and digital updates, ensuring visitors know what improvements are coming and when.
Parkwood Leisure will also launch an enhanced Active Wellbeing Programme, including a refreshed exercise referral scheme aimed at supporting inactive and less active residents. This forms a key part of the council’s Wyre Moving More strategy, which prioritises making physical activity easier, more inclusive and part of everyday life.
Healthier Fleetwood looks forward to working alongside Wyre Council, Parkwood Leisure and partners in the community to share opportunities available at the Fleetwood Centre.
There's new beginnings too for the Fleetwood-based Wyre Volunteer Centre ... they've moved into expanded premises today!
Courtney and the team are now at 1 - 7 Lord Street, the old Regenda Homes offices and former base for Healthier Fleetwood, opposite St Peter's Church. From there they will offer a wide range of support through the Positive Futures programme, helping adults 16 - 64 years find employment, education, training and volunteering opportunities. 'The Welcome Table' for families will continue at The HUB Fleetwood, as will other drop-in sessions at venues around the Town. For further information ...

Work is continuing on the latest piece for the Fleetwood Civic Arts Trail.
Artists from The Butterfly Effected are creating something special on the side of The Steamer public house, Victoria Street, behind Fleetwood Market. It's part of a fantastic series of murals supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, a project led by local residents and community groups.
The new mural celebrating Fleetwood’s rich heritage has been completed at Fleetwood Market.
Created by local artist Jeremy Alexander Gordon, the artwork has been developed in close collaboration with the Market Management team and traders and it’s already capturing the attention of visitors! The work was officially unveiled this week by Lorraine Beavers MP.
