In this week's GOOD NEWS we share more about voluntary organisations in the Fleetwood community and how you can support them.
Last week Ken and Stuart from National Coastwatch Fleetwood called in to The HUB Fleetwood and our Information Centre. We chatted about their fascinating and valuable service, based at Rossall Point Observation Tower. The volunteers keep an eagle-eye on Morecambe Bay and the Wyre Estuary, looking out for any possible hazards to shipping or other users of the water, and reporting on incoming weather conditions. More help is always needed and there's an opportunity to chat with the team at their Open Day in the Tower, this Easter Monday, 6th April from 10am - 4pm.
Often working in partnership with Coastwatch is the team at RNLI Fleetwood and they are also offering volunteering opportunities ... at sea and on land. Roles include as a crew member on their vessels, administrators and in the RNLI Shop, next to the station, close to the Ferry Cafe.
You can also find out more and support the RNLI's life-saving work at a couple of upcoming community events ...
Open Weekend at Fleetwood Station, Saturday 2nd / Sunday 3rd May. Call in 10am - 4pm, to meet the volunteers, look round the station and see the All-Weather Shannon class lifeboat and inshore D-class lifeboat. Thornton Cleveleys Amateur Radio Society will also be there during the weekend running a special amateur radio station.
Announced this week, Wreck Trek 2026 will be on Sunday 21st June. This is a once a year opportunity to walk out to, and back from, The Wyre Light. It's an early start to catch the low tide with check-in from 8.30am for the walk at 9.20am. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available now ...
The Great British Spring Clean is on until 29th March ... an excuse if we needed one to remind you of some community groups making a difference in Fleetwood.
Follow the Facebook page for The Fleetwood Wombles to join their Saturday morning litter-picks and Fleetwood In Bloom are looking for help to maintain the planters and beds that bring so much colour and joy to the community.

They are hosting a 'Train the Trainer' session with a focus on inclusion around cultural awareness, and supporting refugees and asylum seekers. The event is at the Claremont First Steps Centre, Blackpool next Monday, 23rd March, from 10am to 1pm. Fleetwood organisations are very welcome to attend.

The first Pride in Fleetwood board meeting is taking place this week.
The board members have been chosen to select and oversee the delivery of community projects supported by £20m funding from the UK Government's Pride in Place programme. The meeting is on Thursday 19th March in the Memorial Hall at Emmanuel Mount Church from 5.30pm - access via the Seabank Road entrance. The public are able to attend as long as the capacity of the venue is not exceeded.
