Following an initial period of consultation for the Pride in Fleetwood funding, a summary of the suggestions so far has been shared.

Local residents and community groups contributed to 1,143 written responses as well as input from focus groups, school visits, & meetings. These have been collated by Fleetwood & Blackpool North & Fleetwood MP Lorraine Beavers and her team to be considered by the project's community-led funding board, chaired by Dr Mark Spencer. Themes included new and improved assets such as community hubs, leisure facilities, green spaces; more support for children and young people in particular special educational needs and revitalising business and the Town Centre, to boost the local economy.

Mark says ... "Pride in Fleetwood is about listening to residents, keeping everyone fully engaged and involved with how this funding will be spent across a number of priorities they have identified.

The local community will continue to be included, sharing their views with the funding Board to form proposals for the projects and support that will benefit the whole of Fleetwood."

Dedicated communication channels for Pride in Fleetwood including an email address, website and social media will be launched soon and we'll be sharing the details.

There's been more Good News from the Volunteer Centre Wyre this week ...

... thanks to £23,000 funding from Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner, Clive Grunshaw in partnership with Lorraine Beavers, the team will soon have their own minibus! This will help young people access volunteering and learning opportunities, services, support, events and activities in and around Fleetwood and Wyre.

A host of support is available at The HUB Fleetwood over the next week or so with several drop-in sessions as well as all the great work from the venue's partners.

On Thursday 19th and 26th February the DWP mobile team will be parked in the Bold Street car park from 10am to 3pm. It's an opportunity for residents who aren’t currently accessing the advice and support they’re entitled to, moving them closer to employment and to consider how being in work benefits their households.

Lancashire County Council's PHIL team will be at The HUB, also in the car park on Wednesday 25th from 10am to 4pm. Pop by for a friendly chat about staying well, living independently, and finding the right support close to home including ways to stay independent and well; early help options before things reach a crisis and advice for carers and families.

Also on Wednesday 25th ... Citizens Advice will be in the Heart of the Hub cafe to offer advice on managing your energy bills and support if you do find yourself in debt. Call in for a chat on the day or ring the helpline 0808 223 1133.

Information on adult learning courses with Blackpool & Fylde College is available on Thursday 26th, in the cafe, from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. There's no need to pre-book.

A new, free art for wellbeing course starts at The Market House Studios, funded by Wyre Council.

Over seven weeks, locally-based creative Tina Dempsey will share tips for abstract painting in a relaxed and friendly environment. The sessions will be on Thursdays from the 19th March at the Adelaide Street venue. Places do need to be pre-booked. To get involved ...

Every year the churches in Fleetwood take turns in holding a soup, bread and cheese lunch during the Easter Advent ... these are known as Lent Lunches.

The soup is often home made, always delicious, and offered for a donation if possible. Susan is one of the volunteers at Emmanuel at the Mount, she says. "The meals are always on a Friday between 11.45am until about 1.15pm or earlier if the soup runs out!"

This year's schedule of lunches is ...

  • February 20th at St Mary's, Lord Street.

  • February 27th, Emmanuel at the Mount

  • March 6th at Fleetwood Methodist Church

  • March 13th, St Peter's on Lord Street

  • March 20th at St Nicholas's, Broadway

  • March 27th, United Reformed Church

All donations this year will go the Tear Fund charity which is working to bring aid and support to struggling areas around the world including Gaza, Africa and the West Indies after the trauma of war, earthquakes and famine.

Thank you to everyone at the Churches for their time and their kindness in helping others.
