GOOD NEWS - 18th August

We start this week by sharing the great things happening with the lovely folks at Larkholme Community Centre on Cartmel Avenue in Fleetwood.

There's a full week of groups and activities including Bingo, Tai Chi, Chair-Based Exercise, Knit & Knatter, Light Movement & Dance, Pilates, Patchwork, Dog Training, Sequence Dancing and coffee mornings! This is fantastic support for the community, a great opportunity for local residents to exercise and socialise, and have some fun. Thank you to Suzanne and her friends on the committee for all their hard work in hosting these events. You can find out more on the Larkholme Community Centre Facebook page, by telephone to 01253 771086 or call into our Wellbeing and Community Information Centre at Affinity.

Grab your bucket & spade, join Fleetwood Museum Trust & Friends for some FREE family fun this Saturday!

Meet on the beach by Marine Hall from 1.30pm to 3.00pm and get creative with the pebbles, shells and driftwood. Staff and volunteers from the Museum will be there with ideas too.

It is weather permitting ... please check the Museum's Facebook page on the day for any changes. The event is supported by Fleetwood Wellbeing Way, Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs and Healthier Fleetwood.

Fleetwood Museum is also one of the partners supporting a number of forthcoming projects which will bring together the recollections of local residents and visitors.

Look out for more information soon on 'Mapping Memories', 'The Finding Fleetwood Trails' plus arts and sciences activities using the natural environment of The Mount and Gardens.

If you want to enjoy some live musical entertainment, Fleetwood Folk Club is back with a new weekly get-together.

The Club now meets every Thursday evening at The Mount Public House in Fleetwood from 8.30pm.

ALL singers, musicians and audience members are welcome and it's FREE admission with a collection taken each week for Trinity Hospice.

About 2 years ago we printed several thousand postcards using a great image by local photographer Christopher Verity.

These have been given out free at events and from our Information Centre at Affinity, an advert for the Town as part of the #LOVEFLEETWOOD campaign. We've just about run out of the cards so it's time to reprint and our thanks to the members of the Fleetwood in Focus group on Facebook for suggestions of a new image. They're running a poll at the moment including fantastic images like this one by David Spalding. The new postcard should be available from early next month.

Good Luck to local Armed-Forces Champion, Rick Clement for his latest fundraising challenge.

“Paddle for Pounds” over the 26th to 29th August will see Rick and his colleague Mark Harding canoe 97 miles around the Cheshire Ring supporting ABF - The Soldiers' Charity. You can find out more about the story behind this challenge and make a donation through the Just Giving page.

A reminder of the Healthier Fleetwood Open Meeting coming up, Wednesday 1st September from 6.30pm, Emmanuel at the Mount Church Hall.

If you want to know what’s happening in your community and how you can get involved, please join us. Some of the most supportive and successful groups in your community started from suggestions at these meetings ... perhaps your great idea will be next?

Until the next time … take care.

Healthier Fleetwood is a not-for-profit organisation supporting the physical and mental health of the Town's residents by connecting them to each other, services and voluntary groups in the community. As an individual's confidence grows they take more control of their own wellbeing and an active role in the decisions that affect them. We are independent of but work in close partnership with the many organisations supporting the community.
