GOOD NEWS - 16th October

Today is the launch of the new Broadway Baby Bank based at the Medical Centre ...

available to patients attending the children's vaccination clinic every Wednesday.

The team there say "Our aim is for struggling patients to access baby and women’s essentials, discreetly and without judgement. The baby bank will be situated in the clinic room and we also have a variety of leaflets provided by Healthier Fleetwood, with some amazing local support groups and charities available in our local area.

All this has been made possible by the overwhelming donations from our amazing practice staff. However for this to remain sustainable, we would be very grateful of any donations of unused and unopened baby essentials such as nappies, wipes, baby wash etc. and women’s sanitary items. Thank you to everyone who has supported and donated already."

> If you'd like to offer your support to the Broadway Baby Bank ...

There's also a new way to help the Fleetwood Baby Bank ... based at the Skools In/Out Nursery, Fleetwood Road.

If you'd like to make a donation, there's an Amazon Wish List set up, sharing a range of items they need.

It might not be the best time of year for gardening but that doesn't stop the lovely folks from Fleetwood In Bloom making a difference in their community!

There's now a 'Sit-A-While Bench' at Larkholme Parade shops thanks to a donation by The Bloomers, supported by Fleetwood Town Council, and also the Friends of Larkholme Chat group.

The bench was officially unveiled by residents, volunteers and councillors this week and is a great place to relax and chat. Congratulations to Suzanne of the Friends group, a winner at last week's Counselling in the Community Awards.

Young people on the Fleetwood-based Prince's Trust programme have given the meeting spaces at The Youth Hub a fantastic new look!

The imaginative and colourful redesign features a beautiful community tree, a fun music wall, a vibrant Fleetwood history wall, a creative 'Under the Sea' themed wall and a dedicated gaming wall.

The Prince Trust team are also looking for work placements for the young people, with local businesses and organisations in the weeks commencing 21st and 28th October. If you can help, please email chloetipping@lancsfirerescue.org.uk

If you fancy a kick about for fun and a good cause, there's a 12-hour fundraising footie match next month.

FOCUS ON ... Over The Rainbow Bereavement Group

There are so many wonderful community groups active in and around Fleetwood, and it's a pleasure to shine the spotlight on one of them this week ...

Over The Rainbow is a welcoming peer-led bereavement group for those affected by grief, wanting to connect in a supportive, non-judgemental setting. The first meetings were hosted by the Fleetwood Social Prescribers but the group is now led by wonderful local resident Pat. She knows the pain of loss but also the comfort to be taken from having good friends around you, somebody to listen and understand, to give honest, supportive advice. Some of the members say about their experience of Over The Rainbow ...

"We're all supporting each other, everyone is treated the same."

"There's no pressure to talk until you're ready."

"You open up and realise you're not on your own."

The group meet every other Wednesday afternoon at United Reformed Church, Fleetwood. For more information about getting involved call Pat on 07415 708838.
