Fleetwood Coastguard Service are looking for Rescue Officers to join their team.

HM Coastguard is the UK’s 999 maritime and coastal emergency service, volunteers carry out rescues and help those in distress. You could be involved in mud, cliff and water rescues or searches for lost and missing people. Successful candidates will be required to attend a medical next month and must be available for mandatory training in Crosby later in the year.

For more information on this role visit www.hmcoastguard.uk/volunteer before Sunday 25th January 2026.

The Fleetwood Wombles might not be underground and overground but they are out and about helping to keep the Town tidy for us all to enjoy.

Cllr Jimi Kuruvakadua leads the Mount Ward team of volunteers who meet most Saturday mornings at 10am in Memorial Park, they will be there this week, 17th January.

Jimi says, "I would like to sincerely thank all our volunteers who came out last Saturday to help. Some stayed for an hour, others for two, and together we managed to collect 13 bags of rubbish. Every bit of effort made a real difference, and the little we do together helps make our community cleaner and better for everyone."

There's a wide range of learning opportunities with Blackpool & Fylde College and many of the courses are delivered in Fleetwood.

After the success of the Fleetwood Christmas Day Dinner, Ember and Blossom CIC have launched their next community project ... Art For Purpose.

This uses accessible art workshops to bring people together to create hand-made flags representing women’s voices, dignity, and strength. Entry to each workshop is a donation of period products, which will be distributed through free community boxes in public spaces to support those experiencing period poverty.

Participants will learn simple, accessible art techniques; explore how art can communicate powerful messages; create a flag that becomes part of a collective artwork. On 8th March (International Women’s Day), all the flags created will be brought together and walked through the community as a peaceful, visible act of solidarity.

Period poverty affects 1 in 5 girls and women, impacting their health and education, work and social opportunities. Boys and men are welcomed to take part in the workshops and be part of the conversations inspired by the project.

Heather, from Ember and Blossom says, "Art for Purpose is about connection, dignity, and collective care, values that sit at the heart of Ember & Blossom’s work and, I believe, strongly align with many community organisations."

If you are interested in getting involved by hosting a workshop or a community box for the period products, or through other forms of support please email director@emberandblossom.co.uk

Our Town is a new exhibition opening later this month at Market House studios.

Working with a group of local residents ceramic artist Michael Cassidy explores how clay can hold memory, touch and emotion, capturing the textures, spaces and stories of Fleetwood. The exhibition invites visitors to see the town through the hands of its community and runs from 29th January until the end of March.

Artists joined the group as part of a social prescribing project with Wyre Council and if you'd like to find out about future creative opportunities please contact community@wyre.gov.uk

Healthier Fleetwood is a not-for-profit organisation supporting the physical and mental health of the Town's residents by connecting them to each other, services and voluntary groups in the community. As an individual's confidence grows they take more control of their own wellbeing and an active role in the decisions that affect them. We are independent of but work in close partnership with the many organisations supporting the community.
