GOOD NEWS - 10th June 2026

This week's GOOD NEWS is themed towards funding opportunities ... what's available, how to apply and useful contacts to keep you updated.

Community organisations across Wyre could soon benefit from a £1 million funding programme designed to transform local spaces and create lasting impact for residents.

The fund, opening for applications this summer, will support not-for-profit organisations to deliver improvement projects to community centres, sports hubs, village halls and heritage buildings, helping them become more accessible, sustainable and better equipped to serve local people. Grants will be available from £20,000 upwards, with applications opening at the end of June, closing September 2026. > Register your interest now

Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner is encouraging local organisations to apply for grants of up to £5,000 but you need to be quick as there's less than two weeks remaining before the first round closes. The fund is open to support projects that prevent crime and make Lancashire safer, with a particular focus on diversionary activity over the summer holiday period, when anti-social behaviour typically increases.

The Wyre Community Cohesion Fund has been established to support projects that bring communities together, strengthen relationships and promote a greater sense of belonging across Wyre. Delivered by Community First Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde on behalf of Wyre Council, the fund offers two levels of grant funding (up to £5,000 and up to £25,000) for voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations delivering activities that build trust, encourage inclusion and create stronger connections between people from different backgrounds.

The Eric Wright Charitable Trust Small Grants Programme is for grassroots community projects in Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde. Grants of up to £1,000 are available for small voluntary, community and faith sector organisations with an annual turnover of less than £30,000.

Major investment into the Fleetwood community was announced this week.

Wyre Council has confirmed the next phase of improvements at Marine Hall with plans to invest £1.3 million bringing a key part of the venue back into use and expand its offer. The redevelopment of the Waterfront Bar and kitchen will transform an underused area into a vibrant, flexible space, creating new opportunities for community use, events and daytime activity on the promenade.

Provision for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) has been identified as a priority within the local community.

The SEND Roadshow is at Fleetwood Library on Tuesday 16th June, 9.30am to 1.00pm. Drop in and speak with a range of professionals offering support, advice, and information for children and young people, and their families. No need to pre-book, open to families and professionals.

More SEND support is available from Wyre Family Hub and their partners.

Charles Saer Primary School is opening a new Sensory Garden next week.

The school say, "This is a fantastic addition to our learning environment and something we’ve been working hard to create for our pupils. At our school, we strongly believe that learning should not be confined to classrooms alone. Children thrive when they are given the chance to explore, discover, and engage with the world around them. Outdoor learning plays a vital role in developing curiosity, wellbeing, creativity, and a deeper connection to nature."

And well done to the staff and pupils of Rowan Class at Larkholme Primary School who joined 'The Wombles' and other community groups to tidy up around the Parade shops. They also prepared a big planter with some beautiful blue and yellow plants (school colours) ahead of a plaque being added thanking the school.
