Free Jubilee celebrations in Wyre
Wyre Council is hosting free events across the borough next week over the bank holiday to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
You can enjoy a trip down memory lane at the ‘Through the Decades’ exhibition in the Jubilee marquee at the Civic Centre in Poulton. The Mayor of Wyre will attend the grand opening on Wednesday 1 June at 3pm and it will be open until 6pm so bring the kids along after school. The exhibition will then be open on Thursday 2 June from 10am to 5pm and Friday 3 June from 10am to 12 noon. From the 1950s to present day, the exhibition comprises of artefacts, replicas, scrapbooks, quizzes and fashion of the eras. You will have an opportunity to guess the objects, play traditional children’s games, make music on old bottles, rummage through button boxes and browse comics, knitting patterns and annuals. There will be sights, sounds and even smells! It’s very much a tactile as well as a visual experience.
Next, there will be free outdoor family theatre to enjoy as Alice in Wonderland comes to town. Join Alice and her friends as they journey down the rabbit hole in search of the Queen of Heart’s missing cake stand! Performances will be at The Mount, Fleetwood on Thursday 2 June at 11am, 1pm and 2.30pm, Jean Stansfield Park in Poulton on Friday 3 June at 11 am and 12.30pm, Cleveleys Plaza on Friday 3 June at 2.30pm and Millennium Green in Garstang on Saturday 4 June at 11am, 1pm and 2.30pm.
On Thursday 2 June, a beacon lighting will take place at the Mount in Fleetwood. Come along from 9pm for live entertainment, speeches and the official lighting at 9.45pm as the sun goes down.
On Friday 3 June, head down to Fleetwood Market and be royal for the day! From 10am to 4pm there will be a host of free activities to enjoy. Visitors will be able to pose in the ‘royal gallery’ located in the Main Hall of the Market and have their picture taken on the throne complete with crown, sceptre, robe and corgis! Families can take a royal tour around the outside of the market in the beautiful horse-drawn royal carriage, giving their best royal wave to the passers-by! There will be lots of creative Jubilee art and craft workshops for people to take part in too, come along and create your very own commemorative plates, Jubilee flags and beautiful crowns! Children can also enjoy a bounce on the ‘Buckingham Palace’ bouncy castle in the outdoor Market.
On Saturday 4 June there’s a Giant Jubilee Picnic in Garstang in the family area at Millennium Green from 11am to 3pm. Pack up a picnic and bring your chairs, mats and tablecloths to make this Garstang’s biggest ever picnic. You can sit back and watch the Alice in Wonderland performances and enjoy some fun children’s games.
