Advent Calendar Day 5

We asked for suggestions to be included on our Advent Calendar and today we are delighted to feature one of these, Behind Closed Doors - the peer support group for individuals and families affected by domestic violence.

Lyne was one of those who contacted us saying, "I think this group is an excellent example how simple acts of kindness can make a vast change for the community in Fleetwood and maybe beyond, for those who need the support at the most vulnerable times of their lives."

Set up by local resident Mandy, the group is there to provide comfort, advice and practical support like finding clothing, furniture and essential items for somebody who may have moved to the area in an emergency. In the lead up to Christmas there's and appeal for items to be included in gift parcels which will be distributed to the families supported by the group.

Mandy says, "We only have 1 week left of our Christmas appeal for Behind Closed Doors. The response and donations so far have been so overwhelming, thank you so much. Fleeing domestic violence has many barriers, included financial abuse, leaving their partners and children with nothing but the clothes on their back. Please, please donate if you can, the smallest item will put a smile on a child’s face, and will make their Christmas more bearable. Thank you."

Drop-off points for the Behind Closed Doors Appeal are:

* Shakespeare Primary School, Fleetwood

* My Designer Den , 37a Victoria Street, Fleetwood

* YMCA Lofthouse Building, Fleetwood

* Healthier Fleetwood, Affinity Lancashire Outlet Shopping (Mon/Tue/Wed/Fri 11am - 3pm)

The Behind Closed Doors page is at https://www.facebook.com/groups/704419580546566/

Thank you to Mandy and her friends for their kindess and making a difference in the Fleetwood community.
