Advent Calendar Day 19

On our Advent Calendar this morning we celebrate not one but three resident-led groups that typify the community spirit in Fleetwood.

(FAB) Fleetwood Autism Buddies is social-based group for autistic adults (aged 18+), carers, friends and family. As well as the Facebook page run by Laura, they meet in person at the Mens Shed building to share ideas and support.

S.P.A FLEETWOOD (suicide prevention advice) was established by Tony and a group for caring residents to help rid the stigma surrounding mental health - sometimes simply having somebody to talk to, somebody who'll listen can make a huge difference in a person's life.

Wyre and Fylde community defibrillators fundraising was formed by Helen and her friends and they have been amazing for the last year or so! Through prize draws, gift-sales and events they have raised thousands of pounds for almost 40 pieces of life-saving equipment now available across Fleetwood and beyond.

What links these groups is they are a great example of what we mean by a "healthier Fleetwood" ... they come from the community and are for the community, local residents bringing lived experience and a desire to make a difference. It's been our pleasure to play a very small part in their stories so far.

Thank you all for your incredible work and compassion.

Healthier Fleetwood is a not-for-profit organisation supporting the physical and mental health of the Town's residents by connecting them to each other, services and voluntary groups in the community. As an individual's confidence grows they take more control of their own wellbeing and an active role in the decisions that affect them. We are independent of but work in close partnership with the many organisations supporting the community.
