ADVENT CALENDAR: Day 18

The majority of individuals and groups we've celebrated on our Advent Calendar have been volunteers but there are also many, many staff from organisations working to support local residents and the wider community.

Wyre Council's current range of services includes coordinating the Holiday and Food Clubs for children who receive benefits-related free school meals. There are also paid-for places available for families that are not eligible to attend for free.

The weight management courses in partnership with Slimming World have been a great success, many local residents have taken positive steps towards a healthier and happier life as a result of being involved.

The Council provides a wide range of volunteering opportunities too including groups and events outdoors, based on nature and the environment.

Among the plans for next year is an expansion of the Wyre Active programme with walking and cycling groups and cycle-maintenance training. Visit the website at https://www.wyre.gov.uk/health-wellbeing for more information on the range of services and support available.

Fleetwood Town Community Trust delivers activities and opportunities for all ages and it's NOT all about football ... working in the schools with children on mental health, fitness and nutrition; in care homes hosting gentle exercise classes for people with mobility challenges; out and about supporting young people with training and life skills and supporting the Fylde Coast Armed Forces Veteran network.

Of course there is some football ... with the development teams and and regular tournaments from their base at Poolfoot Farm Sports & Leisure Complex.

See the Fleetwood Town Community Trust website at https://fleetwoodtownfcct.com/ for all their news and events.

Both organisations are valuable and proactive members of the Fleetwood Community, thank you to the staff for all their hard work.
