Advent Calendar Day 11

Visitors to our Information Centre at Affinity Lancashire Outlet Shopping often remark on how Fleetwood people are so friendly, in fact many of them say they are moving to the Town or will do in the future for that reason. So it’s appropriate that one of our most vibrant and supportive community groups is called Friendlier Fleetwood.

Set up about 5 years ago to bring residents together for some fun and conversation, the group has come through the challenges of the pandemic lockdowns and now meet 4 times a week. You can find them at Fleetwood Library on Mondays and Saturdays, 1pm to 3pm and at the YMCA Lofthouse Building, London Street on Tuesdays and Fridays at the same times.

There’s plenty of chat, a hot drink, board games or arts & crafts. The group also meet for the occasional Sunday lunch or breakfast, arrange trips and holidays and they’ve just had the Christmas Party night.

Friendlier Fleetwood have also played a part, literally, in NHS ‘Creative Voice’. They wrote and starred in a short play which highlighted the challenges of communication with and within the NHS, part of a wider project Fleetwood is supporting. Inspired by their success and the enjoyment they had, the group is planning more performances in the New Year … watch this space!

The driving force behind Friendlier Fleetwood is the dynamic duo of Fran and Derek who make sure everyone is welcomed and organise all the events and activities.

Fran also regularly updates us on the group’s news at the Healthier Fleetwood Open Meetings and all of the members are a great example of a community looking out for each other.
