GOOD NEWS - 31st July

The Summer of BIG events continues on Saturday with Fleetwood Moves '24. Memorial Park is the venue on 3rd August for 8 hours of fantastic, inclusive dance, performance and music for all ages and all FREE!

From 10am at the 'Melodrome' stage enjoy a full day of dance, live music and theatre. Get involved in a caribbean carnival, watch exciting new routines and listen to incredible original music by North West musicians.

Bring a picnic to the Rose Garden. There you will find relaxed performances and workshops throughout the day.

And 'walkabout' acts will be peppered throughout the park on the day - look out for the mesmerising costumes of Creature Collective, dance and circus by TurnAround Dance Theatre, or a unique new interactive piece 'Oracle' by Sara Gordon and George Adams.

To be honest there's so much going on we'd need another edition of the Good News to include it all ... for the latest news including details of the many fantastic performers see the LPM Dance website here or follow the Facebook page.

Healthier Fleetwood is supporting the event - please come and say hello at our stall where you'll also be able to find information on the many chances to dance in and around Fleetwood ... whether it be the Retro Ravers with Jules, strictly ballroom with Tia's Crown or a tea dance at the North Euston!

We look forward to seeing you at Fleetwood Moves '24.

Not sure if they will be dancing but the wonderful ladies from The Chill Lounge will be camping out on the beach, under the stars this weekend ...

Thankfully it should be a lot warmer than when the community-spirited group did their first all-nighter in the winter months of 2022. All monies raised by the event will be passed on to local good causes.

There's a JOBS FAIR for young people, Fleetwood Youth Hub on Friday, 2nd August.

Six local employers will be attending to offer career prospects alongside four other providers who can offer training and further education.

If you or someone you know is aged between 16 and 24 and looking for sustainable employment, call in between 10am and 4pm.

The Youth Hub is on North Albert Street in the former Hospital building.

For info please email fyh@blackpoolvolunteers.org.uk

WHAT'S ON AT THE HEALTHIER FLEETWOOD CENTRE

The monthly drop-in with the Homestart team is on tomorrow, Thursday 1st August from 1pm to 3pm at our Information Centre, 1-7 Lord Street, Fleetwood. Pop in to hear more about the local activities and support for families, and volunteering opportunities that can fit around your life. Fathers-to-be and fathers of young children can also chat with staff from Dad Matters for help and advice. There's no need to book for the drop-ins, it's a very relaxed setting and the kettle is always on!

It's been a privilege to offer our support to many local groups and events.

Often this has been as simple as being a sounding board for ideas and offering positive encouragement although it has also been through providing contacts and connections, banking or marketing advice, hosting meetings or some modest funding. Some of the groups have changed very little from their beginnings ... if it's not broken, why fix it but many also want to think about the future and consider their 'next steps'.

Mark joined the Healthier Fleetwood team recently bringing a wealth of experience in governance, legal status and bid-writing ... topics that need to be considered if you do want your group or event to develop and be sustainable. If this is of interest, call into our Centre on a Thursday between 12noon and 2.30pm to chat with Mark about your Next Steps.

If you can't make it along, please email listening@healthierfleetwood and we'll put you in touch with Mark.

A reminder of the Healthier Fleetwood Open Meeting on Wednesday 7th August ...

As well as finding out about many of the amazing groups and events in the local community, and how you can get involved, we'll hear an update on the Big HeArt project from ... local creative Heather has been hosting workshops to gather ideas for the murals which will be painted by world-renowned artists including Christian aka Seca One - both artists will be there. The meeting is at Emmanuel Church behind The Mount, starting from 6.30pm until around 8pm - refreshments are served, all welcome.

REECE & SUNNY'S ROVING REPORT

This week's report focuses on a group which has grown from an original idea into a much-valued community-led resource. Behind Closed Doors offers support to women and families affected by domestic violence - Reece & Sunny were invited to learn more about the group's work.

And finally ...

Congratulations to the Fleetwood Town Flyers Walking Football Club over 60's team! They travelled to Blackburn for an annual memorial tournament and returned with the trophy. Walking football can be competitive or just for fun - around 60 players regularly attend the Flyers session every Wednesday at the Poolfoot Complex, Thornton Cleveleys.

Please keep sending in all your GOOD NEWS to share with the community.

Until the next time, take care.
