Funded training opportunities for health and social care staff

There are funded training opportunities for those employed in the health and social care sector at the Fylde Coast Health & Social Care Career Academy - a partnership of Blackpool & The Fylde College, the NHS and Blackpool Council.

Available are a range of level 2 accredited qualifications that are funded and available to all health and social care staff to support with a sustained workforce, career prospects and opportunities in the sector.


The qualifications are all delivered online, providing easy access and are delivered through live interactive sessions with the course tutor. It's a great opportunity for individuals to gain knowledge and accredited qualifications to support and enhance their career prospects.


The Level 2 courses include:

* Customer Service for Health and Social Care Sector (Award)

* Certificate in Customer Service for Health and Social Care Sector (top up from Award)

* Certificate in Understanding working in the Health Sector

* Certificate in Understanding Cancer Support

* Certificate in Understanding Dignity and Safeguarding

* Certificate in Safe Handling of Medications

* Certificate in Falls Prevention

* Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care

* Certificate in Mental Health First Aid and Advocacy

The government are also funding some of the level 3 qualifications which includes the Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care. Staff can also access functional skills in both maths and English.

All qualifications listed are available to adults who were over the age of 19 years on 31st August 2020 with Government funding available, subject to eligibility criteria being met. The courses will be delivered online with live interactive teaching sessions.


Level 2 Qualifications - No entry requirements, previous qualifications or placement needed


Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Working in the Health Sector

Fridays 10am – 2.30pm for 12 weeks from 16th April


Level 2 Award in Customer Service for Health and Social Care Settings

Tuesdays 10am – 2.30pm for 4 weeks from 5th May


Level 2 Certificate in Customer Service for Health & Social Care Settings (top up from Award)

Tuesdays 10am – 2.30pm for 4 weeks from 9th June


Level 3 Qualifications - Previous qualifications at Level 2 advisable.

Work placement/employment needed for Level 3 Adult Care.

Funding: First Full Level 3 or Advanced Learner Loan

Mondays 10am – 2.30pm for 18 weeks from 1st March

Fridays 10am – 2.30pm for 24 weeks from 16th April

Wednesdays 6pm – 9pm for 10 weeks from 14th April


Functional Skills English and Maths

Employees can apply for functional skills in maths and English. These qualifications can increase your employment opportunities for promotion and career development in health and social care, possibly leading to an increase in earning of up to 10%. The course is delivered online with support from your tutor.
