GOOD NEWS - 8th June

We love hearing Good News about partner organisations working together to support local residents ... Macmillan Cancer Support, Fleetwood Town Community Trust and personal trainer Jules Brooks have teamed up to launch a new initiative.


The Pre-Hab Coffee Hour is a social group meeting on Mondays from 1pm to 2pm at Fleetwood Methodist Church for friendly conversation and the chance to share advice and information. It's followed by a gentle exercise class with Jules, designed to support anyone coping with cancer and other conditions affecting their health and wellbeing.You are welcome to join the coffee hour, the exercise class or both activities - there's no charge thanks to funding from the Lottery Community Fund. After last week's incredible swim to the Isle of Man by local resident Adam Diver, some slightly less daunting ways to enjoy the water ...


Fleetwood & District Swim Club invites new members to join. Based at Fleetwood YMCA pool, this is a family-friendly club, offering support to improve your swimming either for fun or to race competitively. It's for ages 7 to 21 years, sessions are held throughout the week and they also offer water polo! Everything you need to know is on their excellent new website here.


The Splash Pad at Fleetwood YMCA reopens on Saturday 10th June for weekends, ahead of being 7 days a week for the school summer holidays. The hours are 10am to 4pm, it's £2 per child but FREE for FY7 members - sessions are non-bookable. For more information please visit the website here or follow Fylde Coast YMCA on Facebook.


Did you know that Lancashire County Council's 'Dial-A-Ride' offers a wheelchair-friendly service for residents with limited mobility or sensory impairment?


Bookable weekly trips are available to and from the major Towns including Fleetwood for ASDA/Affinity Lancashire, Cleveleys and Poulton for £4 return. There's also a monthly service to venues like Dobbies and Barton Grange, and later in the year for the Blackpool Illuminations. And a reminder that the £2 single fare cap on bus journeys has also been extended - information on local services available from Blackpool Transport and Stagecoach.


Tia's Crown have launched their 'Dance Floor Heroes Kids' competition for 2023.


Based at the Crown Balloom, Famer Parrs this charity is all about using the positive impact of dance - encouraging people to take to the floor and express themselves. Dance Floor Heroes Kids is an opportunity for children to perform, showcase their talents and maybe lift the trophy! There's a new, FREE Men's Exercise class coming up at Fleetwood Library for a couple of weeks.


For men aged 55+ the sessions will be on Mondays 19th and 26th June, 12.30pm to 1.30pm. For more information please call into the library or you can email fleetwood.library@lancashire.gov.uk


Wyre Council is offering a year's FREE Green Waste Collection Service when you start or renew a subscription.


There’s three subscriptions up for grabs - sign up no later than 18th June to be in with a chance of winning.


A couple of drop-in events next week in the Healthier Fleetwood Wellbeing & Community Information Centre at Affinity Lancashire ... Tuesday 13th June, 11am - 12.30pm: DAD MATTERS COFFEE MORNING

The charity aims to help fathers have positive relationships with their families, support their wellbeing and mental health, encourage dad’s participation in services that have traditionally been targeted for mums and provide peer support. This is a chance to chat and enjoy a brew with local co-ordinator Eric and some of the group. This is a free event, just call and say hello.


Friday 16th June, 11am - 1.30pm: CHATTER CAFE & COMPUTER CLINIC

Every Friday we host a Chatter Cafe - inviting local residents and community partners into our Information Centre to meet, find out what's happening in Fleetwood and enjoy a brew. We're joined by volunteers from The Walnut Tree, offering advice on living with dementia and other debilitating conditions and also Fleetwood Social Prescribers.


And on Friday 16th we also host the FREE West Fleetwood Computer Clinic. Call in if you need help or advice with your digital device, to connect and make the most of the internet, for data security and storage tips. There's no need to book although the first hour can be busy. Donated devices are very welcome too.


There is one change to our usual opening hours at the Information Centre - we will be closed on Monday 12th June, opening again on Tuesday 13th at 11am. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to another enjoyable and inspiring Healthier Fleetwood Open Meeting yesterday evening - if you couldn't get along, we'll share a summary soon and look forward to seeing you at the next meeting, 4th July.
