GOOD NEWS - 29th September

Tomorrow will see thousands of people across the Country meet at Coffee Mornings, raising funds and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support and Fleetwood will certainly be playing its part!

Healthier Fleetwood is hosting an event at our Wellbeing & Community Information Centre, Affinity Lancashire from 10.30am to 1pm on Friday 30th September. All the cafes at Affinity are involved so grab yourself a delicious drink from Costa, The Coffee Box & Bistro or Katie's and pop a pound or two in their collection pots ... and join us at the Information Centre for fun & games, cakes & bakes. Volunteers and bakers from Fleetwood & Cleveley Lions are supporting the event and the wonderful Harmony & Health singers will be there too, bringing the sunshine whatever the weather! Our thanks to everyone at Affinity, to those who have donated raffle prizes, cakes and treats, and to the volunteers on the day.

And if you can't make it along, there are other Macmillan Coffee Mornings in and around Fleetwood ... call in to Broadway Surgery or Mount View Surgery to support their events and also at Poolfoot Farm Sports Complex with Fleetwood Town Community Trust.

Fleetwood Town Community Trust have also extended their support for the Town's foodbank, The Pantry. They are encouraging families within Fleetwood Town Juniors FC to donate items of long-lasting food every Saturday morning when they attend training sessions and matches at Poolfoot.

The Pantry is an amazing community group - if you can help with donations, by volunteering your time or would like to know more about the support they offer, please telephone 07852 989065.

Connect 5 is an educational training programme that helps build confidence in having conversations about mental wellbeing.

The content can be tailored for health and social care professionals and also for members of the community - last week Healthier Fleetwood hosted a taster session for some local residents keen to know more. Neil Sladen from Connect 5 delivered the session and it was a great discussion based around communication in the community focusing on how the wording and tone of conversations can encourage people to share their thoughts or worries, honestly and safely for all concerned. In most cases, simply being there and listening can make a huge difference although we also spoke about signposting to some of the specialist support available if that was more appropriate.

Healthier Fleetwood and Connect 5 will be working together on more sessions for local residents and community groups, across other health and wellbeing topics - please look out for details of how to get involved.

In the Summer we had the pleasure of Robert joining us as a volunteer, part of his Prince's Trust course based at Fleetwood Fire Station.

We're looking forward to welcoming another young person next month and the coordinators of the course would like to find more placements in the community. If you can offer a 2-week opportunity for an enthusiastic 16 - 25 year old please contact Sam Willan on 07900 268707 or by email to PTfleetwood@lancsfirerescue.org.uk

Sam is also looking for community projects the team can support like general tidying of areas, painting and repairing facilities. Get in touch if your group needs some help.

Autism Initiatives is a national organisation established nearly 50 years ago and have a vacancy for a support worker in Fleetwood but you need to be quick to apply!

It's a full-time role supporting young people and adults with autism spectrum conditions, based at the the Blackpool & Fleetwood centre and within the wider community. Full details and how to apply are online here - closing date is 30th September.

Wyre Council is inviting residents to have their say and take part in the 'Life In Wyre' survey for 2022.

Usually carried out every two years, this is the first local survey to be held in four years due to the disruption of the pandemic. The questions are designed to gather qualitative insights and data from residents on how they view council services, what they think of the area they live in, their experience of the pandemic and the ongoing cost of living challenges among other things. The survey is open for all Wyre residents to take part in from today, Thursday 29th September, until it closes on Thursday 17th November 2022.

Everyone over 16 completing the survey has the option to enter into a free prize draw as a thank you for taking part. Prizes include a YMCA annual membership for the Fleetwood, Thornton, Poulton and Garstang leisure centres, a voucher for the council’s MOT Centre at Copse Road in Fleetwood or complimentary tickets from a selection of upcoming shows at Marine Hall or Thornton Little Theatre. Read more, take part in the survey and view the 2018 survey results here.
