GOOD NEWS - 27th March

This week's GOOD NEWS is choc-full of community events and things to do for the Easter weekend and the school holidays!

There's a Family Fun Day on Saturday 30th March at St Nicholas' Church, Broadway from 11am to 3pm with FREE crafts for children including sew-your-own easter egg, scratch pictures, design a mask and colour a wooden egg hanger. Also a FREE Easter Trail (with a chance to win a large Easter egg), tombola, lucky dip, pick-a-lolly, name-the-rabbit and how many eggs in the jar? This is a fundraiser for the Wyre & Fylde Community Defibrillators ... more about them later in this bulletin.

Saturday morning is the Fleetwood Town Community Trust 'Easter Egg Hunt' at Highbury Stadium and in Memorial Park.

Loads of fun, prizes to be won and an appearance by Captain Cod.

Tickets are £5pp and do need to be booked in advance for this.

On to Sunday and the volunteers from Behind Closed Doors are host their fundraising funday at The Queen's on Beach Road from 1pm.

Easter bonnet competition, children's lucky dip, raffle & tombola, stalls, music from Lucas Williams and Zoe Denice and The Highbury Morris Dancers. It's a busy time but the Easter Bunny will be visiting to hand out FREE eggs to the children (subject to availability).

Fleetwood's churches and faith groups will be also holding services and events over the Easter weekend, welcoming all members of the community to attend.

Into next week and there's some opportunities to burn off the egg-cesses of Easter!

Fleetwood Town Community Trust's sports camps and football camps run Monday to Friday for the two weeks 2nd to 12th April. Ages from 5 to 13 years, venues include Chaucer school and Poolfoot Complex, and there's a separate football camp for girls. For full details of these, their other courses and to book ...

In other GOOD NEWS ...

Wyre Council have announced they’ve successfully secured £141,212 from the Government’s Swimming Pool Support Fund. This will support capital investment for Fleetwood’s public swimming pool helping to make it more environmentally and financially sustainable.

Congratulations to Reece and Sonny of Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs for reaching their 100-miles in March target. Funds raised through the online page and the donations made in person will all make a massive difference to the charity and their work. The dynamic duo are hoping to add to the final total with collections at events over the Easter weekend including the Fleetwood Town home game versus Cheltenham Town on Saturday.

We mentioned earlier the Wyre & Fylde Community Defibrillators ... this amazing community group recently installed their 50th piece of life-saving equipment ... what a fantastic achievement! Helen, one of the volunteers, also recently completed a fundraising walk to the top of The Big One at Pleasure Beach Resort, Blackpool ... that's 235 feet high!

The Healthier Fleetwood Information Centre will be closed on Good Friday (29th March) then back to the usual Tuesday, Thursday and Friday schedule from next week - all opening days are 10am to 3pm.

Our next Open Meeting is on Wednesday 3rd April from 6.30pm to around 8.00pm at Emmanuel Mount Church, Fleetwood.

As always we're looking forward to hearing updates on community-led projects and events, and ideas for something new. All welcome, especially if you haven't been to a meeting before. It's FREE to attend, no booking needed, refreshments are provided. The evenings are very informal and friendly, hosted by Fleetwood resident Pauline and our thanks to everyone at Emmanuel Church for their hospitality.

Keep sending in your GOOD NEWS to share with the community ... there's so many reasons to Love Fleetwood and we love hearing from you!

Until the next time, take care.
