GOOD NEWS - 27th April

Many of the community groups we work with in Fleetwood operate on modest budgets and are largely self-sufficient, others are considering new directions. Knowing about the funding available and how to access it is very important.

Wyre Council invites charities, community groups and not-for-profit organisations to a Funding Information Event on Thursday 11th May at 2pm in the Civic Centre, Poulton. You can talk with staff from Crowdfund Lancashire and Walney Extension Community Trust about their funding offers and the Council's team about signing up for Wyre Community Lottery. Support could be available from hundreds to up to £50,000 depending on the fund and meeting the criteria.

If you can't attend the event but would like to speak to somebody about these opportunities please email Wyre Council on engagementteam@wyre.gov.uk

Healthier Fleetwood's role is to help make connections within the community and share all the amazing groups and activities which support health & wellbeing.

On Tuesday, we teamed up with the Social Prescribers from Fleetwood PCN to host a coffee afternoon at Larkholme Community Centre. Residents were able to drop in for a chat and browse the wide range of information available to find something new they wanted to try. Look out for more events like this across Fleetwood in the months ahead!

We had a lovely phone call in the week with Ray who is moving to Fleetwood next month and wanted to know about groups and activities in the area. He was pleasantly surprised to hear there was so much going on and really looking forward to joining the Walk & Talk events led by Fleetwood Town Community Trust. Thank you to local resident David Baxter who took part in an International Health & Wellbeing conference this week, sharing the positive messages from Fleetwood and making more great connections for the future.

There's a busy day in our Wellbeing & Community Information Centre, Affinity Lancashire tomorrow, Friday 28th April.

Anne and John will be with us to pass on their experience of being a carer for a loved-one with a debilitating condition. They are not health professionals, they do have practical, first-hand knowledge of the support available in the local community.

Drop in from 11am to around 1pm to chat with Anne & John, and also from 12 noon Ken will be with us, to talk about the opportunities to become a Lancashire County Council 'Shared Lives' carer - a paid role supporting individuals to become more confident and independent.

> Further details are on the Lancashire County Council website And of course, as it's Friday, our Chatter Cafe is open from 11am - all visitors are welcome to have a cuppa with us while they browse the information on display. We also have a stand at the Celebrate Fleetwood Day event on Sunday 7th May and invite community partners to join us on the day. If you want to present your charity, group or activity in person, we're putting together a rota for the stand. It can be for just an hour and is a great way to reach out to the community - please get in touch. The next Healthier Fleetwood Open Meeting is coming up, on Wednesday 3rd May from 6.30pm at Emmanuel Church at The Mount.

These are always enjoyable and inspiring evenings, full of positivity and good ideas for and from the community. No need to book, just turn up and get involved or listen as you prefer. There's free refreshments and usually some, pleasant surprises too!

Whether it be in person, by email, phone or social media, we love hearing from you and please do send in your Good News for future bulletins.

Until the next time ... take care.
